Thank you for this. It all comes down to common sense. The SSA or IRS does not phone to intimidate you with threats of incarceration for non payment or non Compliance. Please, tell your elderly family members to just hang up. Get rid of home phones. On iphone, go to settings, phone, Silence Unknown Callers. End of problem. They can leave message, but no scam calls anymore.

Yep. I got one of those calls two days ago. It rattled me for a moment, I called the number, the guy who responded - heavy Southeast Asian accent - asked me for my name - I foolishly gave it, then he asked for my SSN, I hung up. It sounded as if he was in a room full of other scammers. Regular bottom-feeders!

I have been getting these calls on my land line. Clues: 1. They do not mention or know my name. 2. They do not mention or know my SSN 3. The threat is "magistrate court", and such courts do not hear federal cases.

My gma just got a call, she did answer - they told her someone was using her information in Texas, but then asked her to repeat her ssn over the phone. Thankfully, she told them off and hung up.

You should not advocate calling these people back, they often they use 'value added' numbers which can involve premium lines and could cost a great deal of money. The best way to deal with the evil people is to lead them on and then put your phone in a drawer for an hour. They are paid for each call they make and if you tie them up they lose money. Do this a couple of times and they'll put you on a list of people who won't play their game.

I got that call today, they threatened to issue a warrant for my arrest if I didn’t get back to them, that was the message. I laughed and went online a made out a report. I can believe anyone would actually fall for this nonsense.

The scammers are getting bolder. During the first week of 2020, I had received a phone call which was suppose to be from Social Security. The caller had claim that someone was using my Social Security number some near the South Texan Border. A strange fact is that I didn't travel to Texas since the year 2005. From what I have known, Social Security will not call any person unless they have some business with the person. Often a person will contact Social Security before Social Security sends a response. To state another fact, the scammer didn't give me my name. I did receive a few phone calls which the person was informing me that they were from Social Security or from somewhere else. Since they use a four digit number which wasn't mine, I told the person that I wasn't the person who they are calling. Ironic there was a chance that the person calling me had made a honest mistake. Since Social Security will not contact any one unless they have some business with them after the same person had contacted them, the person who is claiming to be from Social Security is likely a scammer. A new scam is focus on the claim that someone else is using your Social Security number. It is the same one which I have describe in the above paragraph. Unless the person calling you about someone is calling about someone using our social security is from a service like Life Lock, that person who claims to be from Social Security is a scammer.

I received a call as well. This is the fourth one I have gotten in two days. Very annoying and left the message in my voicemail. I will not return the phone call. They do not mention my name or social security number. I didn't recognize the number so no info was given. Call from California. A total scam.

I got one of these calls as well, with the threat you will be prosecuted. Like you, I know ss will never call you. Interesting I called the number back being curious and they answered on the first ring, big giveaway, because their number is a 800 # and you have to listen to a whole litany of a menu. I reported the phone numbers but I am sure they are throw away phones. Thanks for the message.

The SS police called me months before I was to receive my first check , with all kinds of official threats ! Sometimes several times a day and multiple days a week . One even said they wanted the money BACK ! My phone now doesn’t even ring if the number isn’t in my directory .

So my friend was applying for Medicare through Social Security and they wanted him to send them by certified mail his original passport, copy of his social security card and identification... I thought it was odd and I told him know not to do it. Evidently the Social Security offices are closed because of the pandemic..? I would still tell people to please beware

You'll work it out @rpm - driver's license number, state etc. Many people have the same name as crazy as that seems- dig down and get it cleared up and if there was identity theft please report it. If you write the movie please let us all know!

I know this was done in 2019, but I never saw this until now. I keep getting calls telling me that my "social security has been breeched". WHAT SOCIAL SECURTIY???? I DON'T GET social security! I called the # back a few times. When THEY answer, THEY ask ME what MY NAME is and what's my soc #!!!! When I start to say, 'YOU called ME, so YOU should ALREADY know my name!', they hang up!!!! They've been calling me 2x a day for over a week. It's a voice generated bot who leaves a message. It just says they urgently need to speak to me. LOL All the numbers they're calling from are local to where I live. I have my phone set up so it won't ring when they call. I laugh hysterically while their message says they are SSA my caller I D says Scam Likely. I figure eventually they'll get tired of calling and give up. Good video, the word does need to get out to everyone.

I got a call today. It was area code 1 844 and I answered sure enough it was a lady on voice recording, it was very cut off though. It said my SSN was being used to launder money and all sorts of suspicious activity and to please call them back.

They can buy a phone number in your area code for $1/month and simply forward it to their call center. The more messages they leave and the more phone numbers used, the more money they will scam out of people who buy into their tricks.

Im getting this scam call too. they keep calling and leaving me a scary voice mail. So i decided to get on youtube and yes now iknow this Social Security call is a fake. Im not even going to bother calling them back im just going to call the real SSA and report this scam number. 1 [phone]. thats the number of the scammer. Got a call the other day I actually told the person ( I’m going to be nice due to social media) to get the marbles out of her mouth said she was a police officer gave me a phony badge number and when I asked what state she was from that’s when the bs started said I didn’t have to know that so I turned the tables and told her she called a police captain and I could see her through my phone boy she hung up mighty quickly I blocked her number
