A neighbor is going to work until 70, I on the other hand am not waiting, I am going to file to begin living my life free of work very soon even though my SSI amount is way less than this example. It is an individual decision and not one or the other is best. Despite my working mostly engineering positions, I was paid crap mostly because I am self taught (meaning I do not have a degree) despite doing the work. Great video

I love these guys, they keep leaving out the fact that inflation always out runs the social security increase by at least 2% a year. The second and more important fact is that your body decreases in health by almost exponential rate. That trip across the country in a car that you always wanted to do at 62 it's not that difficult but try it at 72 or 82 when you no longer can see or drive a damn car.

Hans - Another great video. Thanks for using real numbers to show the value of Social Security. While you didn't give the numbers for your wife, but just said it was small, have you considered her filing for her benefit at 62? A $200 PIA would be reduced to around $142 a month. She could collect almost $12K waiting for you to file. Once you file at age 70, she would get a reduced spousal benefit, but it's only reduced by $52 since she would be over FRA when you file. You would be ahead for 17 years using this filing strategy. And if you were to die during that 17 year window, she would switch over to your full benefit. P.S. This is the strategy my wife and I are using.

Nice of him to use his and wife SS numbers. If he went to a SS advisor they would tell him to have wife file at FRA on her SS account, take that until he starts 70 and then file for spousal benefit when she is 69 and get 3 years of SS benefit. The SS provisional income calculation takes in 1/2 of the SS amount plus all the other income. If he has $$ in a 401k type of account and/or IRA accounts, he is 2 years away from RMD. If someone wants to do Roth conversions DO NOT START your SS - it just gets in the way of the process.

With letter and one hand that says I don't have any co-pay secure cost they do my paperwork at the local office cuz I can't do it and I end up with an 888 dollar copay so when I don't sign up for insurance the state takes $170 a month out of my thing so I have to sign up for insurance for an insurance that I can't afford to use in order to keep them from the state from stealing my money I can't deal with these people anymore and I don't think half the Senior Systems out there can figure this out or deal with these people

If your spouse has passed away and you are 60, you can qualify for survivor benefits. Once you start getting these benefits, Social Security no longer provides these statements (online or via mail) -- MySSA say Estimated Benefits are "not applicable". What do you generally tell the client to do in order to get a copy of the latest benefits estimate based on his or her income? (At least for now, a surviving spouse can get benefits based on the deceased person's benefits and then switch over to his/her benefits as they reach their FRA or wait until 70).
@fij79632 жыл бұрын
So in your example & assuming you are the same age as your wife, you mentioned that in order for your wife to get spousal benefit (1/2 of your full benefit), you (Hans) will need to at least have filed for SS benefit at full retirement age (66 yrs & 8 mos.) so she then can start collecting spousal benefit from you. In order to get the maximum amount strategy at 70 you've laid out, how would you then suspend receiving your own (Hans benefit) until you reach 70 once you've already filed at 66 yrs & 8 mos? Is this an arrangement SS can do for you?
@janetmartin93722 жыл бұрын
You cannot file and suspend. She will not be able to collect her SS until he is collecting his.
@DanGriffin102 жыл бұрын
He didn't say his strategy was for his wife to claim spousal benefits at her FRA. He showed how much it would be but if you look at his Strategy column on the white board is shows him claiming at 70 and her receiving the 50% spousal benefit at that time.

Since the lifespan of men and women in the United States has declined and is now about 75 for men and 80 for women doesn’t it make more sense to take your Social Security earlier? I guess if everyone in your family lives till they’re 100 it makes sense to wait till you’re 70

You need to look at lifespan at 62, not at birth!! You will find it’s much longer. For men it is more than 20 years, I.e., over 82. Higher income people tend to live much longer.
