I wonder if there are regional variations on this dance. I learned NC2S the way Buddy Schwimmer (the inventor of the dance) taught it: with a slight backward rock-step on the "quick-quick" part.

Yes there is kind of a social way and a more competitive way. Both are correct and you can do all the moves with both styles.

Hey Brian! I see some instructors have the leads start the first slow on their right foot. Does it really matter or no?
@SocialDanceOnline2 жыл бұрын
Short answer... it doesn't matter. Technically it starts on the left foot for the leader. I will sometimes start on the right foot when demonstrating a pattern so I don't have to dance a full basic before the 'meat and potatoes' of the move. I've heard of some instructors starting on the right foot with some mention of phrasing but no description has ever made any practical sense to me. I hope that helps a bit :-) -Brian

@@SocialDanceOnline I figured that was the case. Thank you! Last question! There are some songs I hear / dance to that feel like you can NC2S to, but their time signatures are 6/8. Those songs would be I'm With You by Avril Lavigne and Wasted On You by Morgan Wallen. I know most NC2S songs have a time signature of 4/4 I know you can definitely waltz to those songs, but I wanted to get your opinion if NC2S is also feasible for those two?

@@iamonthecan12 Great question. This comes up a lot actually (when a song like this comes on at a social dance) You're right - that song is straight up a Viennese Waltz! Could you dance NC2 to it... technically no, cause it the patterns wouldn't be the same rhythm as NC. However, I see it done all the time so if you and your partner like it and hear the music the same way... why not! I hope that helps :-) -Brian

@@iamonthecan12 Would you happen to have a list of songs (across genres: Oldies, Countrym Jazz, etc)that are great for NC2S? Planning a gathering/dance and that would be sooo helpful. Thank you kindly...
