Wow, Mike, I really don't know what to say. Knowing that the silly vids are useful and appreciated is simply the best feedback any one could possibly want. Thank you so much for taking the time to say so. And please do let me know if there are any areas you think could be covered or better addressed. All the best, Bert

Hi Bert thanks 4 the video, I've been waiting 4 sometime 4 this, I don't feel like u explained how new labour made it more possible 4 the poor to ride the carasel of capitalism , could u give some examples? Thanks mark from nz.

@@222-i6o Hi! Thanks for that and sorry for not replying sooner. The examples I use are the minimum wage, tax credits and an expansion of child care (sure start). They were designed to tackle absolute poverty so it was not about turning the poor into moneybags overnight. Sure Start made it easier for poor parents (especially single mums) to get out the house to work; the minimum wage meant more money and tax credits meant that depending on certain conditions, the poor might see some of their tax returned to them, making work pay more. Hope this helps! BWs

The underlying unverified assumption of socialism, that over-riding government is key to happiness, rips away the facade from its ugly skeleton.
@drfegg2884 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I'm not sure that is strictly true, after all Marx did perceive that the state would wither away. While that was naive, I would argue that 'over-riding government' is a bit of a straw man argument. The government is a means to an end rather than an end in itself and if Covid-19 shows us nothing else, it surely proves the need for a strong central authority that is able to invest and plan over a timescale that the private sector cannot countenance .... I really appreciate the feedback and all rigorous argument is good!

The third way is a joke
@TheJosephPrice3 жыл бұрын
Not really. If not for them, Labour would’ve never returned to power and neither would the Democrats. Social democracy works well in the Nordics, but there is too much hysteria against it in North America and Britain.
@killerbreadsticks3 жыл бұрын
@@TheJosephPrice dems being in power only helps the corporations and stock market. They don't pass any actual legislation to help people. All they do is move centrists to the right while ignoring any progressive voices they have like Bernie or AOC.

I think you owe it to people to tell them the third way is the COMMUNITARIAN nightmare we are all battling against being further implemented. Why is it no one mentions communitarianism and communitarian law?

E Pluribus Unum has nothing to do whatsoever with diversity leading to unity. It had to do with 13 colonies coming together to form a union. Diversity as you use it is not something even considered by those of the colonial era. Diversity in America is a wholly modern construct. As for me, diversity in its modern context has lost any meaning at all. Same with multiculturalism. Access by all to the marketplace has nothing to do with diversity or multiculturalism except in the most attenuated manner. In fact, the myopia of equity rather than equality and the preferential treatment required to achieve the former is self-destructive. The immoral focus on diversity and multiculturalism is superficial. It is the character of each participant in the economy that matters. Equity in outcome requires the state to meddle and distort capitalism. Diversity and multiculturalism are late 20th century notions that have yet to be proven as desirable or sustainable given human nature in the long run. Nowhere in human history have these abstractions been proven to improve a society for any meaningful length of time. Actually, it is just the opposite; the end in conflict and destruction. It is the nature of humankind as well as Nature to desire and exist in a homogenous state. You yourself use the word unity to describe participation by everyone in economic system. However, your simple definition of unity describes full participation by anyone and everyone in the capitalist system - access. However, even access will not be equal, nor should it be. Only opportunity to secure access and exercise it accordingly. Thanks.
