Sociological analysis of factions in Gothic 1 | The Old Camp

Hey! So, here it comes - the first fully narrated (by me! :D) translation of analysis of factions in Gothic 1.
It's been quite a journey to get here. Really. I knew things are rough when it comes to video making and such but knowing it versus experiencing it - I swear, these are two different things.
Anyway, I present to you the first episode from the series. There will be more, be patient. English community unfortunately will be a little bit delayed with their content. I am very sorry for that, you just have to bear with it, I'm sorry.

W sumie to nie do końca rozumiem dlaczego Polacy nie lubią swojego własnego akcentu. Przecież Afrykańczycy mają jeszcze mocniejszy niż my, a nikt z nich nie marudzi, że mówią jak mówią xD

Nie nauczysz się RP jeśli nie zaczniesz najpierw mówić z tym _polaczkowatym_ akcentem. Nie podoba mi się taka retoryka i podejście do używania obcych języków.

I like how Diego isn't entirely a saint character even though he's one of the nicer characters you come across. But then again he's a real one. From earlier times the Old Camp might have been better actually if guys like Diego was still uncorrupted.

Ayyy, bratan. Believe me, it's the same sort of thing with Hungarian. Your language and it's pronounciation is insanely difficult and unintuitive for me. Frankly speaking... I find Japanese much easier to pronounce than Hungarian, despite the fact that technically I used to talk a lot with two people from Hungary. Nevertheless, cheers. Thanks for being here :>

@@konradciechomski7649 mam trochę inne dane statystyczne na podstawie filmów, które dotychczas wylądowały na moim kanale, stąd... też krok w innym kierunku. Poza tym większość niemieckiej i rosyjskiej grupy odbiorców tej gry to ludzie w wieku 18-30 lat. Podobnie jak ja, znają oni angielski na tyle, by nie musieć wchodzić w interakcję wyłącznie z niemieckimi i rosyjskimi treściami.

Witam serdecznie, piękne filmy robisz i zajebiscie się tego słucha lecz mam jedną sugestie bądź podpowiedź. Otóż według mnie wystarczyło by dodać napisy angielskie i w tytule o tym zaznaczyć, że takie są możliwe. Ułatwi Ci to trochę pracę, a dzięki temu upieczesz dwie pieczenie na jednym ogniu z podobnym, a może i większym rezultatem co 2 filmy. Zdobywając więcej wyświetleń na jednym masz większą szansę na promocję kolejnych. Robiąc dwa takie same materiały zachęcasz wszystkie grupy ale dzielisz wyświetlenia ;) pozdrawiam serdeczenie

Dobrze, że mi to uświadomiłeś. Tylko, że tu trochę mam dylemat, bo z jednej strony chcę mieć portfolio z podcastami w języku angielskim, a z drugiej strony jest kwestia wyświetleń i marketingu. Jednak postawię na portfolio, a marketing chwilo zepchnę na dalszy plan. Możliwe, że mi to opóźni kanał lub go nawet utrzyma cofniętym, ale trudno. Planuję pakować tutaj też inny content, nie tylko z Gothica. Więc w przyszłości chciałbym widzieć tutaj przynajmniej z 5-6 filmów w pełnej obsadzie anglojęzycznej.

the protection money is a good system for keeping peace among convicts AND profiting off people. As one npc mentions, 2 protected npcs will both get beat up (killed?) if they fight. This means everyone has to be hyper aware of eachothers protection status before trying to fight. And everyone's motivated to mine ore.

For beginning players they have 0 ore so they would be pretty offended from asking for protection money off the get go. Honestly I made do without paying them anything. And made sure I killed them first when I was massacring the enitre town. Of course you can always pay them protection ore. Then kill them afterwards and get your ore back. This is why Gothic is the greatest RPG ever.

I think you are too focused on negatives of the Old Camp. It has its good side and bad one. For example mentioned guards Jackal and Bloodwyn. Jackal was a "good" guy as he simply asks for the payment. If you pay once you are under his protection (until later stages of the game) and there are no consequences of refusing to pay. Bloodwyn on other hand is a bad guy who will demand payment every day and refusing means people will try to kill you. Also Zimbardos experiment is highly unscientific (small sample size, no neutral observer, direct influence of experimenter, reliance on anecdotal evidence etc.) so it falls between antivax types of studies. But in general it's quiet nice video.

It's a tricky job balancing here with those videos. I try to keep it under the idea that all camps are somewhat bad and broken. While good things are... well, they're quite obvious. You see them, you notice them once you play the game for a moment. On the other hand, I wanted to take a look at some hidden, less obvious pathologies. Of course, I should've mentioned that Zimbardo's experiment is highly unethical and broken, nevertheless - it shows some things and portait them well enough for less scientific purposes I assumed here.

It's too bad the game didn't get enough development on the New Camp. But in a way it kind of makes sense. The Old Camp really demonizes the New Camp of being full of murderers, liars and killers. But honestly I found Old Camp way more cutthroat. On the first impression everyone would find Old Camp a lot more seedy and prison convict like. Two guys walk around collecting protection money, some guy just attacks you out of the blue, some guy lures you out the camp on a lie hes' going to help you then tries to kill you wiht his buddies, I did hear a rumor that Mud was in the penal colony for sodomy reason why nobody in the camp cares if you harm or kill him, Gomez is probably the worst leader you want to side with who will kill you with a second thought. New Camp comes out as prisoners that don't want to be involved in continuing being criminals except they do thave their share of cutthroat moments. Gothic 2 fully shows how New Camp members are complete assholes though which probably wasn't added into Gothic 1. Or maybe it's because the Old Camp has dissolved in Gothic 2 and they just needed an asshole faction. Gothic 2 confirms the rumors about New Camp much more and that Old Camp wasn't completely propagating the truth.

@@kissme1518 in the new camp you have the rice lord gang, shriek who stolen Gorns hut, some random guy you are warned about (I think he attacked me in one play-trough but I could not recreate again), guy who let you collect food for party then beat you, and guys in a cave that makes fake(?) swamp weed also as gothic is a great game they could pour another year or two of development, its always nice to analyze difference between what is being said and what are the real actions of game characters but they still are just game characters and some features (their actions) just weren't implemented

Old Camp wasn't taking over the New Camp and their ore mound and mines only because they were too busy mining ore and living it up. I like that reasoning actually. It's not like the Old Camp wanted to shed blood and waste effort on it and they were closer to the drop out point.

To zależy. Niby angielskiego uczę się od 4 klasy podstawówki, więc teoretycznie to jest już ponad 16 lat nauki. Ale tak naprawdę takie poważne uczenie się jak mówić, pisać i się komunikować zacząłem gdzieś dopiero około 17 roku życia. Z czasem przyszły kontakty zagraniczne, mieszkanie w akademiku pełnym obcokrajowców, dyskusje na uniwersytecie po angielsku. O i tak to wyszło że teraz jest jak jest.

@@fcavazza2552 poszukaj rozmówcy na interpals. To taka platforma społecznościowa do kontaktów międzynarodowych. No i też dobrym nawykiem jest mówić do siebie samego po angielsku i myśleć w tym języku. To pomaga oswoić się z pojęciami i ułatwia automatyzację wypowiedzi.
