Another great lecture, Dan. The idea of wakan that "comes and goes" is in Marx's phenomenology of the value forms, see p. 183 in the Fowkes translation of Capital, Vol. 1. where value "comes and goes."

Thanks for the citation that underscores the remarkable congruence between Durkheim and Marx. This is one of those phrases from Marx that is easy to pass over when reading, but sticks in the mind once someone speaks it aloud.
