Back in the day tube socks used to be worn by older men and whenever a young person were to do it, it looked nerdy, goofy because it was worn by older people and got made fun of. So if they ever got a pair of longer socks they were basically forced to hide them so they wouldn't get roasted. Nowadays the tube sock is trendy and even back in middle school for me in 2013 it was something that was very popular especially for nike elites.

Hi, hoping to have a chilly discussion. I sort of agree, it's not a necessity, most of the time ankle socks suffice to me in shorts and it's not a problem if they show, I mean they don't look bad and can be a style element, there's no point in being obsessed in not showing them, I think it's just one of many looks, not better or worse, sometimes I want the look of socks not showing and do that, but it's really not a problem and shouldn't be shown as this fashion enigma and dilemma haha, also might as well not wear socks and I indeed sometimes don't, but only with loafers type of shoes, as that's just more comfortable in summer and shorts because they are light shoes which feel almost like sandals, but not with other shoes like these ones. What I understand is maybe not wearing mid calf socks with shorts, but just because it sort of defeat the purpose of shorts, to chill out and show legs, but if one is comfortable it's all that matters.
