I'm wondering if this would have a better effect with the 150W and higher TDP chips considering the airflow (and noise) needed to keep them cool in a 1U chassis. This would definitely be something I would do with a rack mounted 4U workstation where the motherboard is horizontal and can take a large air cooler or water block.

Label and identify, you can keep each one “tagged” and tracked for warranty/RMA purposes, and let’s you know if you have a bad batch. Also a lot of contracts require return of the original hardware, and this way you can check after someone pulls thousands of these from your racks of servers. From a non-commercial use, these would be so much better than the sticky notes for component binning all of my parts have! It’s really annoying when you’ve binned even a simple 4x cards for crossfire, and you’ve organized the slot priority’s with fastest cards in top slots, and then have it all apart for cleaning waterblocks only to realize at some point some of the sticky notes fell off with your clockspeed and voltage tuning labels... Now I use painters tape! Too many identical cards to keep track of, even when it’s just a couple 4x of a series for benching... I keep most of the data in spreadsheets (like voltage/speed/power/temp/benchmark score), and it would be super nice to just scan and “Boop, here’s your card!” with all the data. Now imagine if I had thousands of processors instead of my personal benching stack... Yeah, you’d want those badboys tagged!

the lens is sharp, but you may want to stop down to a narrower aperture. I used to really enjoy looking at all the cool stuff in your background which is now super blurry. Even the box in the forewground is a bit fuzzy. Stop down your aperture and get a longer depth of field and I think it'll be perfect. The wider aperture is good for your up close shots of the cooler, applying nail polish, etc since you want to de-emphasize the background there, and I think it looks good when you're attaching the cooler to the MB. But when you're just standing there all the flavor you have in the background is not only useless it's actively annoying. For what it's worth I have this complaint when any youtuber I like gets a new camera.

My dream build has always centred around dual Xeon CPU's, just wish I could afford one :-P
@bk-cl2np5 жыл бұрын
Huanan Dual x79 is a very affordable dual socket Xeon motherboard if you are not already aware of it. It is not actually x79 but a C600 series chipset. You can run two E5-2600 Series chips (V0 or V2) which can be had on Ebay for cheap . The single thread performance of these E5 26XX CPU's are close to i5 sandy/ ivy bridge, not spectacular by today's standards, but my X79 single socket motherboard with an E5-2690 does pretty good in newer games that can take advantage of the cores. It's basically an 8C 16T i5 2500. Having two of these I think would make for an interesting setup if you don't mind the drawbacks of older hardware and just want to have dual CPU's for the hell of it. It might even make a decent budget editing rig

What's the deal with these anyways? If they perform closer to a 4C/8T i7 than an R7 2700, the platform is extremely expensive... what is a typical usecase that justifies the expensive, powerhouse platform but such a relatively anemic CPU?
@1jantera5 жыл бұрын
There is alot more to Server CPUs than just met the eye with performace. They need to be alot more reliable than Consumer Part and also there are alot more Support for Features like Virtualisation. While Ryzen supports alot of Workstation features and even some Features specific for Servers. They are still not meant for continues high load and heavly virtualised Application like Xeons are. And actually the performance of the CPU shows the Core scaling really well because 8c/16t =~ 4c/8t at 2x the clock
@pr0xZen5 жыл бұрын
@@1jantera So what I mostly got from that, in as far as to give a pointer towards "what is their reason to exist" on such expensive platforms - it mostly comes down to some binning, and artificial limitations of feature sets and ECC memory compatability..(?) - I get why to bin, why to artificially limit features etc - You want exclusive, or high-end special features primarily used by people or companies using the hardware for revenue-generating work or research, warrantied reliability etc - to be beyond a pretty high pay wall to make bank and recover RnD expenditures. Yet in a perfect manufacturing world, you'd sell the exaac same piece to different markets at different prices. To as great extent as possible, you also want to to keep the number of actual silicon die variants you produce as low as possible (within production cost reasonable limits for physical size) - so as to rather produce a smaller set of dies and optimize their yields quickly, and gain optimum cost efficiency and economy of scale balance. Then you go to binning, selective certifications, and finally gimp the consumer and/or HEDT silicon by microcode or nuking physical sections. I'm just a bit baffled by the enormous cost disparity, given the relatively low brute performance together with the vast cost of the platform.
@1jantera5 жыл бұрын
@@pr0xZen actually the price delta inbetween isnt as much as you expect the xeon silver 4110 right now cost about the same as the 9900k so both are 8c/16t. So in terms of pure Performance the is just the clock difference But from the xeon you get all the server Features (there is alot more to it than just ecc support, i didnt know much about that until very recently as well because i started working in this Business branch) And often what is more important than just the Features is also the Support (for examle guarantied next workday tecnician service,wich is often offered by the server manufactures ex Fujitsu) for these Servers. So the Prize increase is totally justified for businesses that rely on these servers. Edit. And sorry when i wrote my first comment i misread and though you were really toxic about the prizes of the xeons Edit2. I just looked it up the amd equivalent to this cpu would be the epyc 7251 wich is around the same prize point
@pr0xZen5 жыл бұрын
jantera jantera I know there's a lot of features - as in genuinely useful features for various workstation, server, datacenter workloads and virtualizations etc. And there's completely different support structures and hierarcies, although a lot of that is often not readily available to a private individual buying a part. I'm not quite sure if its a market thing or what - but the reason i pointed out that immense cost discrepancy vs small disparitys in brute performance, is I was honestly (and for context kinda incorrectly) looking at 8C/16T Xeon _gold_ CPUs. And a 8C/16T one of roughly similar brute performance of a consumer grade 2700X, is around £7.000 around these parts. At the end of the day you're paying for so vastly much more than the silicon, substrate and IHS. It just baffles me some times, that there often isn't all that much more brute performance also included, for those price differences that can start to close in on a multipler of 50x in price some times. But no - I'm not knocking on the cost, although there's some times very little shame in profit margins there. There's incredibly much behind thr numbers. It just odd to think about some times, that what you're often getting *least* of for your money buying these parts, is "silicon" / hardware.
