Sockeye Salmon Fishing 🐟 Kenai River Alaska

Our first successful salmon fishing trip in Alaska! We drove 3 1/2 hours to the Kenai river on the Kenai peninsula.
The sockeye salmon fishing was amazing and it was a wonderful experience for the family!

My SIL has a log cabin on the Kenai river near Soldatna. My husband and I have never gone there so this was great to see. Now we have a much better picture of fishing on the Kenai. Thanks for sharing. God bless you and your lovely family.

How much fun.........I was just remembering the taste of the salmon we caught in West Port and how good they always are. The flavor is so good and light and just indescribable. Fresh salmon is the best. Mother always cooked the whole fish minus the head of course and opened in on a sheet of tinfoil......smothered it with mayonaize for moisture and sliced fresh lemon slices and laid them on top .....then baked them in the foil all wrapped up for some time.........put potatoes and corn in foil and set them in the oven as well......(the salmon on a cookie sheet in foil) baked it all together and when it came out dinner was ready.....fresh salmon, corn on the cob and baked potato, served with lemon which you could squeeze on the fish and melted butter for the corn along with sour cream and chives for the potato.............Delicious........ahhhh those were the days. I was thinking as your catch was so generous that you would perhaps need to get a smaller freezer in order to fit it all and I smiled when you mentioned you did exactly that. It is so delicious.........I hope you enjoy each bite. Glad you de-boned them as that can be a concern. Our stream below us here about a mile we have the salmon swimming back soon headed back to their place of birth........mother nature is amazing ........as they age and start to molt they swim back from the ocean into the small streams that feed them out as young salmon.......live their life and as the age out them swim back to the place they began. We have a salmon hatchery not too far from our home and it is all quite interesting........................... Great catch and enjoy your salmon feasts!!!!!!

Absolutely beautiful! So fun watching the success of your fishing trips. Love Avalon’s birthday wish list. I follow another KZbin family, SIMPLY ALASKA. I wanted to pass on to you something that they do while they are processing their salmon. After they fillet them they take a metal spoon or ice cream scoop and scoop all the meat out around the bones. It’s amazing how much more meat they process by doing that. Perfect for salmon patties! I would recommend watching one of their fish processing videos. ALL of their posts are wonderful! Priscilla would love some of their cooking and canning ideas.

So many Salmon. We had some for dinner last night but of course not fresh catch. Supermarket! Hey Joas maybe you can do a video on how to pursue your dreams, follow all your goals to live life to the fullest and how to financially plan for an adventure such as you are blessed to do this time in your life while not working etc. I thought of this when you said in video “you have to come visit Alaska” How does one pursue these dreams and leave jobs, homes, family, etc? So excited for your family to travel this road. What a gift !!!!

I lived in the same place all my life and all my family and friends are there and to do something like this is very unusual for me so thanks for the idea! Maybe we can do that sometime.

You will have salmon for quite a few meals! Aren’t the size of the fish amazing?! I remember my husband caught a huge lake trout when we were living up there, it reached from the ground, up past his waist! And he is 6’2”!

I’ve lived in Alaska for 40 years. Here is one of our favorite ways to eat salmon. Couldn’t be easier. Lay your fillet out on a baking sheet. Spread Mayo on the whole fillet liberally. Sprinkle brown sugar all over it. Be generous. Don’t rub it in. Bake for 20 minutes @ 350. Good enough to serve to company.

I am Alaskan Native who grew up in Kotzebue, my father grew up in Libby, I spent every other summer in Libby visiting my grandparents, my grandfather there worked the Mill (closed years ago) my father passed at 92 years of age in Aprl..I live in Anchorage...I love Libby, my Uncle and Aunt still reside there, Thompson family..
