Our dealership leased out a used combine to a farmer to harvest beans. His fields were very rocky, and the rock traps kept tripping. So he wired them closed. At some point he picked up a large rock, which tried to go thru the rotor. It took out the rotor and damaged the conclaves and mounting points. It took us weeks to repair it.

My mother always disapproved of me farming on Sundays. We didn't try to make it a habit but it was hard to sit still when the beans were ready to run and the weather folks were predicting 3 days of rain in November causing about a week set back. We lost a pickup to fire, on a Sunday of course and Mom never let me forget it. Gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes. I think the good Lord understands. Sorry about the break down, keep up the good work, you'll get there.

I wouldn't worry too much about missing church on Sunday Nick, I would've thought that you'd know farmers are exempt from church during harvest time. My Uncle Freddy farmed south of Asquith, Sask., Canada. He retired in 2006. He rented his land out to another family. He told his renter that he never farmed on Sunday. His renter said that he knew that. He never farmed his land on a Sunday. He was in church. He stood by his faith. His son in law now farms the land. He is in church on Sunday. I do not farm. We used to go "look at the crops" on Sundays. You see, my father came from a farm background. My grandpa named his farm truck Beulah. That is a Biblical name. I could never figure how why in Heaven's name you named a truck "Beulah". . . . now I know. There is a song that was written by Squire Parsons, called "Beulah Land". . . . now you know. You can see the song sung on KZbin. I am not judging the Welkers at all. There are other Christian farms on KZbin. Observing the Sabbath is not in vogue anymore. I do not have crops to harvest.

Remember when Michael Bloomberg said all farmers do is drop the seed on the ground and watch it grow? Hardly!
@1202-Alarm2 ай бұрын
I'm not a farmer, but Bloomberg's comment was so demeaning to farmers. To run a farm you have to have knowledge of crops, fertilizers, herbicides, weather, mechanical knowledge to repair equipment, knowledge of the crop futures market, and general business knowledge to balance your revenues vs. expenses. Farming is at the mercy of the weather. Had a cousin of my that is a Wharton graduate and worked on Wall Street. Her father was in manufacturing and worked his butt off making a successful business. She was disillusioned by Wall Street colleagues making millions of dollars by pushing a button....basically a gamble on market movements. Bloomburg is clueless about farming.

Even in Arizona it requires ground water. There is zero ground water under Welker Farms. The nearest water source is over ten miles away, and it would likely take millions of dollars to access it, across multiple private and public properties. There is no irrigation option for Welker Farms.
