SoD FROST Mage is BACK - INSANE DPS in Phase 6! Frost Mage Guide - BiS Gear, SIM, Talents & Rotation

A few notes/observations from playing this spec so far: 1) Imp Bliz doesn’t seem to apply Glaciate, but it does proc Fingers of Frost so can still be worthwhile. 2) No reason to take the fire specialization ring rune unless you plan to use Living Bomb or Fire Blast (which isn’t necessary imo). 3) Ring of Swarming Thought is around on par or even slightly better than Wrath of Cenarius, at least in my sims. I usually sim longer than 60s though so that could be part of it. 4) May be more valuable to take 2 points in Arcane Subtlety over 2 points of Magic Absorption, the 40% reduced threat on SFB can be helpful. 5) In p5 it was ideal to stack FOrbs with the ZG trinket, but with this build I think it’s better to stagger FOrbs because one is enough to stack Glaciate to let you spam Ice Lance. 6) In my experience, you don’t have a lot of opportunities to cast Deep Freeze, it should be lower prio but you can weave it in on occasion.

One of the best, straight to the point vids on mage in years. Confirmed a lot of my suspicions after the recent buff. After the first couple phases of trying to dps just enough to not get kicked, its finally our frost time :) hype!

why use fire specialization on ring instead of arcane specialization?

Hi Seano. Love the video as usual! I have some questions about the BIS list. How important is Chrit chance? I see a lot of the bis lists for frost mage, and it seems like the CRIT stat is being downplayed for few points of spell power. In the fire mage video a few phases ago, i heard 1 CRIT = 18 SP, is that not as important for frost mageS?

Hello mate, partly it’s down to gear as most of the frost BiS is set in stone regardless of stats due to the bonuses, that said 1 crit is worth less to frost because you have Fingers of Frost + Shatter making your crit chance insanely high anyway

How much higher does Wrath of Cenarius ring sim than the next ring up? Probably Ring of the Fallen God or Band of Vaulted Secrets?

What is the reason for putting points into Frostbite over say like Arcane Subtlety? I can see Frostbite being good for pvp or maybe dungeons, but not really great in raid right?

for the trash/dungeons it fits into the glaciate debuff spreading through blizzard playstyle, your blizzard is going to trigger frostbite and your ice lances are gonna hurt because targets are frozen

@SeanoHere Makes sense, thank you! I was originally thinking all the other AOE going out will break frostbite before ice lance reaches the target but even a couple hits here and there would be big damage.

Hi mate, thanks for your comment. In the most recent update Improved Arcane Missiles also affects Spellfrost Bolt and Regeneration pushback, you should be able to see it on the tooltip in game now. This is really good for certain fights when our barrier fades we were getting bad pushback. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

So I'm just trusting the build because I don't know. But why the hell do we take fire specialization?? Spellfrost is ice/arcane.

With frost we are hit capped, the final ring specialisation is down to personal preference, you can use either arcane or fire. For use of counterspell take arcane, for use of fireblast (good to use on movement) take fire. Hope that makes sense, thanks

How on earth does that helm sim higher than Mish or 2.5 helm? Please I need to know. Both Mish and 2.5 have the 2% crit and more spell power. It makes 0 sense how it’s summing higher

The healing helm counts as a timeworn piece thus increasing your haste if you have the rep ring

@@SeanoHere The problem is actually getting all the timeworn pieces will be basically impossible within the phase. It's the same story as previous phases, MC I was still missing 6 pieces of BIS by the end of it and BWL 4-5 missing as well. BIS is relative to what your current setup actually looks like.

@ all depends on luck I guess, our guild has managed to get our Fire Mage almost full timeworn already, the legs coming from 10man definitely helps. I’m sure it’ll work out but good news is that Frost isn’t as gear dependant as Fire so as long as you have your ZG set you should already be performing well :)

Phase 6 is AQ. AQ40 will be 20man and AQ20 will be 10man. Lots of other updates to gear etc as well
