It was not 1% but raiding was not what the majority did. This is a major difference from 2019 classic For AV I could easily say what would make it more fun for me but it is not what the current player base wants. AV in 2005 was a mini game on its own. There was no rush to boss. The instance lasted for hours or even days. And there was a single instance most of the time as servers were small. People would log in, play a little and log out, the population rotated. It was almost like an open world zone separated from the rest of the world. People would even LFG to assault towers or do all the other missions that everybody ignores now. Mobs were harder and more numerous and dropped special loot to hand in. There were landmines everywhere and a world boss and troll tribe hostile to all. Most people reading this would consider it horrible but it was the most fun part of vanilla wow for me.

If you want the closest experience to OG Vanilla its on hardcore, only the top fraction of a percent of players raid. The world is the complete focus. Gear matter, goals matter. A constant influx of levelers going again.

In terms of having more things to do in the world, I think we all agree(The problem is how to make it attractive and get people excited, something I wouldn't know how to solve since players generally move around by gear, some WBuff or mount as retail) In AV BG, I think he's referring to an endless battlefield (the description the author gives is very poor and too simple), with the map full of NPCs, Korrak trolls (PVE stuff more than going for Drek/Van), that gives you time to summon bosses, etc. (obviously if they changed all this, they should change how you gain honor and improve it) I think the world bosses should be more balanced, not instanced, but not respawning every week. For me, the ideal would be for them to be in the world, and spawn every 15-20 minutes. And so that people don't abuse them, they should have a 3-4 day save so that they don't abuse receiving loot, but still have conflicts and people killing each other there and not only accessible to a single guild

Problem of playing the same version of the game again and again is the knowledge players have. There is no way to re-create the 2004 experience since we know everything now, wowhead knows everything, they data mine anything new coming. Also players want to play with the best available gear, not dungeon blues. No one is keeping you away from spamming dungeons, just make a tank and you can fill in groups in an instant. The enemy of the game is the player base itself. You cant change that. So this reddit post is out of reality of the game and the author is clearly not playing the game anymore or the nostalgia of the past hit his head.

No, raids is definitely the true endgame. What blizz did with SoD was give themselves excuses to make content throughout the level bracket. A great idea that "should" give us the best of both worlds over time.

What made vanilla so great is vanilla wow in its normal state. If you wanted to make classic plus a banger it’s simple - Add new zones/maybe double the accessible leveling dungeons/and new endgame content/collectibles/mounts/and new endgame raids in each tier. Follow the OSRS recipe - it just works.

what made vanilla a great game is gone. the mystique of it. everything has a tutorial now. theres nothing left to figure out. when vanilla was in its retail phase, we couldn't look up strats on youtube, reddit, watch streamers do it etc. it was an entire world in front of you your to conquer and tons of mystery, rumors, and figuring it out yourself. word of mouth is how you found things out from other players who figured it out or were trying to. they will never be able to capture that again because we are too connected as a society. for many it was entirely new and nothing like it before it. a lot of us only played 0-1 games online, on the internet back then. i know everquest existed, but the internet and personal computers in every home was just becoming a thing back then. yes EQ came before it but wow is when mass pc adoption happened. now the game has been out twenty years. we have certain standards and expectations for what new content should look like and when it doesn't turn out well we get upset. back then we were just thrilled to have something new an exciting "bliz put in an unkillable dragon called onyxia" was such a big deal and rumor you head by word of mouth for example. another one "immortality got this thing from molten core, its half of something, but we don't know what it is yet because theres no info online". the world first thunderfury happened on my server for another example. you never knew what was coming next. twas all new. i hold these memories fondly

They are right tho.. Raiding is easy and accessible to everyone, it shouldn't be the main activity. I like doing BWL, but it was fun the first few times, then it was just the obstacle to get better gear. However, once I get t2, ZG set etc I just go to a battleground and I actually have more fun there. I think they should think about some other activities that players enjoy at 60.

@@cococock2418 A little of one and a little of the other. If we got progressive patch's instead of everything being on the ironed out naxx patch, it would of been more difficult. Our gear is stronger than original vanilla, our classes have been bug fixed and every boss has been tuned/bug fixed.

You know why. 95% didn't raid? There is NO internet. no wowhead.no redit.no google. no DISC. no Curseforge. NOTHING. the PC run on 486. the graphic sucks. the monitor are CRT tubes. 95% of the people were benched. Because nobody teached them how to play so they suck. There was no feedback system to get the Dev to lower the difficulty. The Dev didn't care. But everyone want to do endgame raid. they are just not allowed.

Not trying to be that guy but as someone who did do vanilla raiding this is false. Vent was available and was used quite frequently to communicate and cover mechanics and strategies through the encounters during and outside of the raid times. MC/bwl progressing it wasn’t that bad as your painting the picture.

It was maybe so for Everquest1, but once TBC dropped raiding became so mainstream and easy, I even RLed some pugs when original tbc dropped. But majority of problems with raiding comes from player toxicity/elitism, you on point about that

@@jackmcconnell8328 Yeah I've got several raiders in my guild who are easily twice my age and experienced it first hand; the game wasn't as mysterious as people think. Sure, you had to learn a lot of stuff from word of mouth which IMO is much better for the community to teach each other rather than depend on everyone following a meta guide written by one person, but people forget guides started coming out on KZbin in 2007 for things, even if we didn't have massive content creators then. It's easy to echo what you've heard from others because it sounds like "everything was different", but in actuality it's just not true. For a lot of people who were maybe outside more and didn't play that much, it was a completely different game objective though, and gaming wasn't as huge as it is now. Hell, people used to get mocked for playing OSRS/WoW or liking "any other nerdy shit", but thankfully it's generally accepted now as just another hobby.
