SoD Phase 4 PTR - Will P4 Save SoD?

Agreed.. I hate 20 man.. Now their even talking about making some 40 man's again in phase 4..if those become a requirement to get good gear I'm all the way out. I'll never do 40 man's ever again. Did them back in the early 2000s and hated it

⁠@@aaronrodgers920240 man is not hard to organize at all if you have a fairly decent sized guild but for pugging or smaller guilds it’s definitely a challenge tbh. I found it much easier on vanilla private servers weirdly enough just not on blizz servers.

Emerald nightmare almost burnt out all of us. We stuck through it for the PvP but its been rough to keep going. I didnt even bother doing PvE this phase. Im hopeful for phase 4, but if not, youll find me in battlegrounds.

Sod sort of put me in the mindset that classic era / vanilla is peak and all we really need is fresh servers every couple of years. A “classic+” delivered by blizzard will probably never be what most people want or except.

Exactly, I agree. I do think there is a classic plus that would be ideal and complement the game and satisfy the community but it’s not something that blizzard is capable of pulling off anymore. Latterly because it costs money and does make a lot of money and it’s time consuming to actually test and adjust. They don’t like vanilla because they had nothing to do with it and they’re jealous. The best thing they can for vanilla is have a seasonal server that resets every two years and repositories in era.

What they could try is for example to release a server with everything open at launch. I'm sure lots of people would be interested for the race at the world first KT. And one or 2 years later a server with everything open at launch, no attunement/keys needed to enter MC/UBRS/Ony/BWL/NAXX and AQ's gates already opens.

Cata has been quite fun, but the game has no soul. Literally most people can't even be bothered to communicate in Cata. SOD was amazing but i've not played it for a few weeks, i'll give p4 a try but i think quite a few players will not be returning to SOD

SoD to me just neglects to play on the strengths of Vanilla and instead throws them all by the wayside. Ridiculous levelling speeds makes me question as to why it's even part of the game, if all they do is focus on endgame endgame endgame, why even have it? That's what makes me feel like SoD is just a worse version of Wrath with an undercooked endgame and no cohesion. The power creep from the runes is absurd. They need to go back to basics for any future Classic project. I want them to take a look at the world as a whole. I want them to sprinkle quests in existing zones, that are seamlessly integrated within the questing we already know and love. They should finish off some questlines that were never properly finished or ones that were alluded to. New reputations, new rewards for existing reputations. Profession questlines, Race questlines. They should make entirely new dungeons to fill in some of the sparse level ranges and they should consider adding bosses or new passageways to existing dungeons. The theme of 'Discovery' feels like it has been totally missed. Class changes need to be more thoughtfully considered, and the differences between classes perhaps even exaggerated rather than homogenised. There's so much potential for a Classic+ but it feels like it's being wasted by developers who are making a Vanilla game for people who don't actually like Vanilla.

Yeah I 100% agree. It’s an art form to weave content in and they chose to steamroll it instead. I wanted an exploration and expansion horizontally. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up adding more levels eventually or something like that. They hate leveling so much so why not add 10 more. Horizontally expanding the game would actually expand it instead of shrinking it like the other expansions did. I don’t think you can save sod. It’s lazy and it feels bad. They only way to fix is start over and actually try this time instead of dumping the toy box over on the carpet. They could’ve built something

The fact they've left dead runes dead literally since phase 1 is what pains me. Rogue has some absolute trash. And it feels like literally 1 cookie cutter build. If anything for pve rogue feels more cookie cutter than actual classic. But there is literal potential in so many runes to make there be multiple different playstyles with literally a few changes. But it's been months and my inclination to play is next to 0. And if phase 4 isn't releasing till September time because blizzard moved the dev team for all that time to cata, and phase 4 rolls around in the same big steaming pile of 0 development of SO MANY things. Then blizzard is done for me. I've no interest in playing a poorly developed game. Cats is so uninteresting to me. Retail is just not my jam. A 3 monthly rotation of gear and more rep farms every 3 months just doesn't interest me.

I think you’re right about cata causing a lot of rift but what happened in phase 2 then? It felt pretty empty then too.

I actually really liked Cata, I think I played that more than any version of the game... but it seems like the SoD players dropped significantly more than era when Cata classic came out. Shouldn't the drop be more even?
