people's political preferences still exist on a spectrum. but since the US has a two-party system, the issues of the day get looked at through that lens. the idea that abortion should be illegal IS a conservative view. the idea that gay marriage should be legal IS a liberal view. whether you want to identify yourself as a liberal or conservative is totally up to you, it just comes down to which party you feel is most aligned with your beliefs, and who you end up voting for. i honestly don't think it's possible for someone to be split exactly 50/50 because the reasons for holding liberal views and the reasons for holding conservative views are just SO fundamentally different. there are some people who call themselves "centrists" or "classical liberals" or but in my opinion they're really just conservatives who don't want to admit they're conservative for one reason or another
