Just so you know, that loud buzzing sound was supposed to be heard three times, you had like ten buzzes because of how many times you pushed the button. Too much carbonation can cause it to take funny. Also, you were just supposed to kind of slosh the soda around a few times, not shake it because it will overflow. And pouring the liquid into the carbonated water too quickly can cause it to overflow as well. I love my Sodastream and I hope that helped some!

Yep. It's a delicate balance from sweet to salty soda. Even the soda machine repair people have issues getting the balance right. Hate those mixology machines at some of the fast food restaurants. The flavors are not clean and stay in the tubes. Yuck.

I think she redo this one, since she kinda screwed it up a lot (too many buzzes, shaking it vigorously, also drinking through a straw can affect the texture of the soda). I know in my experience of trying the sodas at the store (like Best Buy when it first came out) that they are actually very close, and I'm an avid soda drinker. I could be wrong about the cherry coke because I don't care for it, but I know that the original cola tastes very close to Coca Cola (or even RC Cola).

This is an old video but for anyone who has a soda stream and is reading this, you CAN carbonate other liquids that have a water base (tea, REAL soda that's lost its fizz, etc) with this device if you didn't know already. They only say you can't because they want you to buy their flavoring so they make more profit. If you still want to play it safe, you can make sparkling water and put kool-aid packets in it, or make your flavored water fizzy. The CO2 won't react with other liquids, it's just a marketing thing. Even if you have a chemist license and can buy all kinds of dangerous chemicals, CO2 is a stable and non-reactive molecule. So have fun making things fizz.

Micka Molin The "regular" soda stream flavors actually have half artificial sweetener (sucralose)/half regular sweetener. Hence the "somewhat diet" cola taste. They also have less calories than regular soda, though. The "sparkling naturals" do not have the artificial sweetener. They use sugar and fructose instead.

I know this video is quite "old" now, but I'm surprised that this was/is an "as seen on TV"-thing as here in Sweden they've sold Sodastream (and other similar brands) for YEARS in basically all shops that sell kitchen appliances. And my mum and dad got one when they married in the early 90s as a wedding gift as well, so I thought this was a common thing.. xD

But there was so much wrong with how she did it, which saddens me. We use ours all the time and I prefer it to shop bought sparkling water. You're supposed to press 3 times on the button until that first "farting" noise. Any more will just pump in more Co2, which will flavour your water and not taste good at all. When it comes to the flavouring, it's only supposed to be about half a lid (or at least that's what we use and it tastes good), then not shake it but rather turn it upside-down gently a couple of times until it looks mixed enough. Although, I prefer the water flavourings to the soda ones, but you only need a drop of those in the bottle for it to work :)

If you didn't shake the bottle of flavoring concentrate well before pouring it in the measuring cap you probably got a pretty inconsistent mix of the ingredients and flavors since mixes in liquid tend to settle unevenly. Cherry Coke doesn't taste any good either if you get way too much of some ingredients and not enough of the others. Also, I'm guessing the loud noise it makes when you've added enough Co2 is just a pressure relief valve, releasing excess carbonation gas if you add too much so the bottle can't be pressurized past a certain safe level of PSI. In other words, every time you press to add more carbonation once it's making that noise is probably just wasting your canister, emptying all the Co2 into the air.

Good thing you were cautious. In the early 1990's we had the precurser to Soda Stream, it was called Charlie O. The bottle was similar to a two-liter soda bottle but with a hard plastic shell around it. It came with a CO2 tank like Soda Stream, but you had to attach a tube to the bottle, turn it upside down, and shake it to add the carbonation. I was using it, attached the tank, it shot too much CO2 and it actually did explode. Caused me to get 21 stitches under my nose and my right nostril. Thankfully there was a very good surgeon on duty at the ER that day and the scar is hardly noticeable, except when it gets too hot out then it turns a little pinkish.

I have the SodaStream and I think it's amazing! You just pushed the CO2 button way too many times. You're supposed to push the button until you hear the loud buzz, and then push it 3 more times during the buzz sound. Then simply pour in the amount of syrup it says and shake it GENTALLY.

Hey Bunny! I have one of these soda steams at my house and I have a few pointers for you! The more you push the button the fizzier it gets, and NEVER add the syrup before you fizz it because, that probably wouldn't be good. The soda flavors are usually never good, my favorites are the kool-aid syrup and the half ice tea half lemonaid syrup, those are both really yummy! If you shake the bottle a lot after you fizz it, you'll lose the fizz. so what I usually do is just really slowly tip it upside down a couple times! I love your video Bunny! stay sassy!

I've added the flavoring syrup before carbonating and after the first 2 button presses it sprayed everywhere while still attatched to the machine. It was a total nightmare and took forever to clean up. Would not reccomend lol

I think the instructions recommend against that too lol. Funny story- a friend of mine tried using my Soda Stream for the first time last year & didn't pour the syrup in slowly enough. I know this is YEARS after the post, but I found that using only about 2 Tbsp max of the flavoring gives it a better flavor. The whole capful as recommended is just too much. Even the cherry cola might taste better that way. My fave is root beer, and I like the orange, too.

Give it another chance! Try 3 buzzes (as recommended) instead of 5-6. The "fizz" makes a huge difference in flavor (to me it tastes so much more bitter and causes that aftertaste) Also I have been able to get the Cola to taste both like Coke & Pepsi. Less fizz + more syrup = Pepsi. More fizz + less syrup = Coke (from my experiences anyway) I really had to play with it before I got it right. Also, yes shaking would typically cause soda to lose fizz.... Hence why it says "shake gently" And yep, that's technically an explosive. So don't stab it or anything... and don't try to take it on airplanes. You'll probably get in a lot of trouble.

Agreed, less fizz will make it less bitter. The carbonation has a mineral like taste. Also instead of shaking it for a minute, just gently tilt the bottle back and forth a couple times to keep the bubbles in the pop.
