Thank you so much for your videos! I’m an RN but reviewing some concepts that I may not have reviewed in the last few years, and I really appreciate that you explain the “Why.” I have trouble remembering things just for the sake of remembering them, if I don’t understand why it’s important to remember that concept in the first place! I’ve watched videos on a few channels but yours was the first to explain a little more in-depth about WHY things are the way they are.

I'm studying the effects of magnesium on muscle relaxation and hydration. My understanding is that magnesium is a co-factor for enzyme action at the cell wall, facilitating or rather regulating the sodium-potassium pump. I can see magnesium's role in ATP production, used in the sodium-potassium pump, but can't find any other mention of magnesium action or regulation of the sodium-potassium pump. How does it work? As a massage therapist, I have first hand experience with people who are presumably deficient in magnesium, with muscles that palpate similar to bone. I have also seen the dramatic effect that recommended daily intake of magnesium (420mg for men, 320mg for women - elemental) can have, with a change in muscle tone to something mushy and jelly like within a relatively short period of time. I have seen some suggestion that magnesium assists with the sodium-potassium pump to shift water into the cell as K+ is pumped inside, but again, I haven't heard any formal description of this. Can you please describe how magnesium assists with hydration at a molecular level?

Hi Dr. Matt & Dr. Mike Is it possible for you to make a video about Gitelman's syndrome ? Thank for this video - I will see it some times to understand this Potassium/sodium connection. I have had this deficiency for some years now and since last year it have going the wrong way. I take 16 x 750mg potassium and 28 grams of sodium/himalaya salt a day - it's a lot, I hope in the future to get it through a port. 🙏

Can you discuss the conditions that can happen when sodium/potassium is abnormal and why they may have failed please. I have Secondary Hyperaldosteronism. Abnormally High Aldosterone and High Renin (and Hypertension). All investigations of the kidneys have so far found any physical reason. A possible theory is that it is being caused by Dysfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System, along with the usual Autonomic issues. I also have Neuropathy (Poly not just stocking and glove) not yet diagnosed. I am a conundrum, with losing potassium and lowering my sodium lowers my renin, the opposite of what is needed for Dysautonomia. Your explanation would be amazing. Thanks Dr Matt. Ps I have a son studying IT at Griffith. 😊
