The hand fabric stapler ( Wawak sells it ) is great for stapling the pattern together. While pattern is together draw on any hash marks or whatever to match pieces up good-labels like A B C on adjoining pieces, then take pattern apart. It is good to label the pieces as in outside back, inside arm, etc. Write on piece on many cuts or if something is cut on the fold, note that and where the fold line is on the pattern piece. If you want to center a motif, mark the pattern as it is easier to determine while looking at the sofa ( for example, on this sofa style, if you centered a motif on the bottom cushion, it would be wrong because the back cushion covers part of the seat cushion. I have added these comments to help someone who is totally new at this. Very good video. Thanks for the chalk line tip.

I am working on my sofa bed slipcover and I am so glad that I watched your videos. I watched them over 10 times. I finally got the velcro on both the sides, back and seat bottom. It was a real challenge, but after watching how you sewed the Velcro onto both sides I am happy to report that I did it! Now I will go to the back, as I attached the front skirt (I do not have pleats, my sofa is more modern with straight arms) I stitched the inside arms after sewing the velcro on both sides. I was planning to make velcro straps to secure around the bed rails, but this is so much better. Please continue to have informative videos. I have a desk chair that has a great lumbar support. Will you show us how to re-uphoslster an office chair using leather? If not, I am just so happy to get this part of my sofa bed slip cover made. Thank you so very much.

@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 9 жыл бұрын
Nivva1 Yes you can! Great question. What you need to do is bring the fabric down to the bottom of the furniture. Mark the pattern fabric along the bottom. Then when you are cutting your slipcover fabric add 4" past the mark. This will give the cover 2" for hemming and 2" finished fabric that will be longer than the furniture. Really glad the videos have helped and thanks for taking out the time for the comment and question. Please let us know how it works out. All the best Paul

ucsolutions You are very welcome, but the pleasure is all mine. The reason I decided to make slipcovers is because we had a brand new sofa-bed that was pristine--not the first blemish on it. We were moved to another state by so-called "professionals". It arrived dirty and torn in spots--in fact, it looked like they dragged it across an asphalt highway. My choice was to get rid of the sofa, have it reupholstered or to slip-cover it. My husband's work causes us to relocate periodically, so I decided to go the slipcover route because we might be moved by another group of "professionals" who would do the same; a slipcover can be removed before a move and replaced after relocation. With your instructions, we also have a secondary benefit of changing slipcovers seasonally because I'll already have a pattern to work from. This is thrilling! I've already purchased muslin for the pattern, and eager to get the show on the road but we are looking at machines that can do more heavy duty sewing than my current home model. Again, can't thank you enough.

A really great tutorial !!! Thanks! - Since I'm not too fond of skirts on sofas how could I do the lower edge? I've got a very cute old cocktail sofa and would like to make a slip cover for it.How can I make it fit tightly so that it keeps its nice shape?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 9 жыл бұрын
tinynorthcat So glad you liked the video. Just today I made a pattern for a cover that will not have a skirt in Arlington VA. It's simple, just follow the curves of your sofa to the bottom of the sofa. Continue the pattern (fabric) to the floor, next mark (with chalk) where the sofa stops all along the bottom. Use that line that runs around the sofa as the mark to add 3" to your finished fabric (slipcover fabric). Hem the 3" fabric up two 3/4" folds leaving 1 1/2" finished. It sounds more complicated then it really is. I hope this helps you and thanks a lot for watching. Paul

Steve E We use the same amount of "tuck in allowance" for either a regular sofa or a sleeper sofa. The real change on the sleeper sofa is we added the Velcro to the "tuck in". In the video where we are cutting the fabric using the pattern we go over the technique for "tuck in allowance (3 inches)" Much thanks

I couldn't quite tell... can you leave the main cover on the sofa when you have it folded out? Basically I have a very crappy sofa bed (although the bed itself is comfy), and want to disguise it for when a friend stays...

So far these videos for making a slipcover for a sofa bed couch have been very informative. I might be ready to tackle the project. However, I haven't come across the video on the actual sewing of the slipcover. Any thoughts? Maybe it hasn't been posted yet.

What if your back pillows are attached but look separated?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Alease, thanks for watching. That’s a great question not easy to explain in a text. You can roll over it railroad the fabric. Or you can individually cover the back cushions all though they are still attached. That’s what I mean I can’t explain it in a text. Or you try this what we show in this video. Remove them and cover them as a lose back cushion. Remove those Attached Back Cushions Quickly - Slipcover Project Part 1. This is the video title on our channel it will not paste for reason but you can find it on our channel. I hope this helps you and again thank you for watching. Please share. Cheers, Paul

how would you pin it if it was a leather couch instead ? more likely pins make a little holes ! thank you
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 9 жыл бұрын
hani mmj Yes I have run into this issue before. I would not but pins in the leather if you can avoid it. It would be near impossible to avoid permanent holes in the leather. I have used masking tape before to hold the pattern fabric in place.To get your center mark (half the furniture point) so you can know where to lay the pattern fabric. Put some tape on the furniture in the middle then a pencil the center mark on the tape. Two thoughts. One, this only anchors the middle, so you will need to move slowly on the rest of the cover ( not shifting the cover). Two I tell my clients all slipcovers over leather are prone shift more than fabric covers do. Thanks for the comment and for viewing. Cheers,Paul

How do I make a pattern for a leather couch won't pins put holes in it.
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 8 жыл бұрын
+cdgibson100 Hi, Thanks for watching! The best way to anchor the pattern without using pins would be tape. However, whatever tape you use, don't leave it on the leather for to long or the adhesive will ruin the leather. Painters tape or a low adhesive tape would be best. Thanks again, and I hope this helps! Best Regards, Grant

Hello, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION. Thank you for the comment, if that is your situation, go over the seat cushions. Or you can include each cushion WITH THE TUCK IN as you go. It can be a little complicated when including the tuck in. I hope this has helped you in someway. Thank you again, Please share it helps when you do. Cheers, Paul.

Can I substitute the white for the fabric to be used as a slip cover? My dear grandchild who is autistic found a seam and just went RIP! Ouch!
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tineke, Yes!! That is what we call double cutting you must fold the fabric in half. Everything is the same, but you will have the fabric folded in the center of the furniture on itself, four layers in total. SO! The white we use here in the video, the top that you see in the video would be the WRONG side facing you. We are in the process working on videos to show "double cutting". Hope this has helps,please don't forget to share. God bless, Paul
