As a result, Sofia would try to kill him, which might force Selina to attack her sister to defend Battinson, especially since it's obvious she has feelings for him.

I love how this is sort of a reference to their affair in The Long Halloween. But instead of a personal and romantic one, it's now adapted into a business partnership and given a grander scale with their families joining together.
