As an infantry vet, naturally I visited shortly after it opened. NIM is incredible. In the GWOT experience, one of the photos is of men from my unit, B Co. 1/502 during OIF 07-09.

I was so envious, and jealous,of all the different weapons!! I only got to spend a few hours there, which isn't enough time! I pouted like a spoiled 5yo when I had to leave! Thanks Sofi, this video made me smile...and jealous all over again!!

I remember going through the NIM back in November of '10 with my dad during family day just a couple months before he passed. I remember us stopping in the Medal of Honor room and he scanning through the records till he found one name. William "Billy" Crawford. When my dad first met Billy he was a lowly janitor at the Airforce Academy in '71. When my dad heard rumors about Billy he looked him up to find his citation. The next my dad a young cadet back then went up to Billy in the middle of the night and gave Billy a salute, he then inspired his fellow cadets to clean their squadron to make Billy's life just a little easier. My dad never got to see the infantryman I became but i hope we never forget our true heroes like Billy who often fade away into the winds of history.

I went to visit the Infantry Museum a few years back at Ft. Benning where I went through Basic, Infantry School at Harmony Church, and the famous Airborne School in 1986. It brought back memories of my time at Ft. Benning as a recruit. Later in life from seeing all the contents of the museum brought me back to what Ft. Benning trained me to be. I did the Panama Invasion and Iraq 2006-08. I was a product of the US Army Infantry School. It brought tears to my eyes. The Combat Infantrymans Badge which I have is my proudest award next to my parachute wings. My Dad and my two Uncles also have the same awards as me..

Antietam aka Sharpsburg was actually 3 battles in one that lasted all day long. There's a lot more to the battle and the politics surrounding the Emancipation Proclamation than we're getting here or that we could possibly ever get here. All of these exhibits are just a tiny fraction of the military history of the US Army. What we should learn from military history is never to get involved in a war if they can possibly be avoided. Most aree indeed avoidable. Unfortunately that's almost never what we come away with. Good job Sergeant Major!

The CIB is awarded solely for a two way firefight. I had a few dudes get their CIB from hitting an IED and never returning fire and my second unit my platoon took SAFIRE while in a CH-47. It's all up to your brigade commander. June 14th, I share a birthday with the army haha and I just noticed it just turned to the 14tg of June as I'm writing this. Oh I forgot to add you probably will not receive a CIB for getting shot at but not returning fire. First week into my first deployment to Afghanistan I was riding air guard in the Stykers and we (the other air guard and myself) received sniper fire narrowly missing both our domes. It was late summer early fall so the crops were extremely high with civilians harvesting so I decided not to return fire (I had control of the mounted 240). The private in the air guard hatch with me gave me shit about him not getting a CIB but I think I made the right call. That Chaplin he's talking about I'm 90% sure he made a speech right before we did our bayonet and ruck march to honor hill. He was a Chaplin, had ranger scroll, tab, I don't remember seeing a mustard stain but I was mad exhausted before we did the bayonet. It was late 2010 so if anyone knows if that was him let me know.

When you’re standing at the Huey’s door, the soldier to your right has a very strange mock M16A1. It has an A2 rear sight and a QD socket in the stock. I’m guessing it’s an airsoft gun.

I knew this CSM looked familiar. He was my battalion CSM when I went through basic in 2016. I was in Bravo 1-50 IN class 6070. I remember one day he chewed out a guy in the CTA because he wasn't holding his weapon right. Then he scared one dude saying that he's practically friends with every CSM in the Army and he would tell the CSM of whichever unit he went to how fucked up that dude was. Seeing this now I completely believe he would've. I think it was the tall dude from 2nd Platoon that had the "No talking" profile because he wouldn't shut the f*ck up.
