A short video demonstrating how to set the thermal regulation - please be careful when messing about with the ATR!!
Read First.
Turn the light on with 3 clicks (Battery check - ignore this stage)
Now double click 3 times (Temperature check - ignore this stage)
Now click 4 times. This puts the light in temperature calibration mode. Where we need to be There are two parts:
PART 1 - The light will blink once (part one) and then start to flicker. While the light is flickering, click in the room temperature. For example, if room temperature is 20C, click 20 times and wait for the light to stop flickering.
PART 2 - Now the light is going to blink twice (part 2) and again start to flicker, (this is for setting the thermal limit for the light to start stepping down) While it's flickering, click 30 times less than the step down temperature you want. For example to set the limit at 50C, click 20 times. If you want to set the limit at 55C, click 25 times. 60C would be 30 clicks. The default is 45C which is 15 clicks.
Once you're finished just wait a few seconds for the light to stop flickering. At this point the light will start to blink out its temperature (you're still in temp check) you can just click once and turn the light off.
Ready?
Make you sure you have the room temperature and set down temperature ‘number of clicks’ in your mind.
Then,
Turn on with 3 clicks
Double click 3 times
Click 4 times.
Wait for the single flash followed by the flickering - enter room temperature in clicks for example 21clicks
Wait for the double flash followed by the flicker - enter step down temperature minus 30 i.e 45 = 15 clicks
Messed it up? Loosen the tail cap, press and hold the power button, retighten (holding down the power button). The light will flicker and ‘strobe’ its reset and try again.

I received my sp36 on Sunday and had a little play that night. I kept wondering why the high ramp wouldn't hold its level🤔🤔🤔 then I found your video above. I went out last night after following your instructions and all runs brilliant, thanks for your help😁😁👍👍

thanks for doing this vid, I've got 2 torches with anduril, the IF25A and the astrolux eco3, the eco3 started stepping down from a low/medium beam seconds after clicking on, I'm not the sharpest tool and i found the anduril manual a bit intimidating but I've fixed it now, cheers.

I suspect the temperature of the light (the first flash part 1) was set to high, thus the light 'thought' it was a lot hotter than it was..

Good demonstration on how to do it. It really is quite easy once you do it. But I would like to add that there's no need to reset the light to do it over. Just simply go through the process again. The only problem with resetting the light is that if you had already programed the floor and ceiling of each of the smooth ramp and stepped modes, and changed the number of steps in stepped mode, those settings are also reset back to factory settings and need to be reprogrammed again. If you didn't change them, then it's not a problem. Also the process itself of calibrating the light causes the light to start warming up. Especially if you had the light on a high output the last time you used it, even if it was yesterday, because the beacon mode uses the last used output as its output and you have to cycle through beacon mode to get to temp check. You may not feel it, but it could rise 2-3 degrees C. That's why it's important to accomplish the first part of the calibration as quickly as possible and to recheck it after the light has "cooled" down. If you're going to perform the process again because you think you may have done it wrong, just be sure to give it time to acclimate back to room temperature, or add an additional click or two when you program the first part of the calibration process. I hope this makes sense lol

Heat wise you're quite right. I shove mine in the Fridge frequently! And by the reset - I know - I have done it. A few wrong clicks and u end up in gods knows what setting and alter all manner of stuff. NP just reset the bugger... But perhaps the bottom line -- Olight for example, very conservative with heat settings with no option to 'have a play'. (No disrespect to Olight intended). But, I, for one, am really warming to Sofirn lights for the option to be even having this discussion!

@@flashlightsuk1422 Olight is a great company, however I find most of their lights to be too specialized for me and I dislike the proprietary batteries and no choice in leds. Put a volt meter across the charging terminals on the light, do you get a reading? Just curious. I don't own any Olights so I can't check for myself. I like all my Sofirn lights and haven't had a problem with any of them yet. Convoy is another great light. Simon at Convoy will do a lot of modifications for you, you just need to ask him. Some simple ones at no charge. And the quality of Convoy is way above their prices. Love my M3, S12, C8+ and S11's. And my S2+'s and M2 lol I love the regulated output. The only thing he needs to work on is the UI and on board charging, but many people hate on board charging. The UI is simple but it could be better.

Thanks for the video. To say this was useful would be an understatement. Any chance of a video on how to do a factory reset?
@Roboticdoughbull3k

He basically shows the factory reset. Unscrew the tailcap and then hold down the power button until you tightened it back together and let go after it goes through a strobe and a flash, let go that is it.

*Do you need to do that or can you just keep the factory setting in place?* *Is it just a way to get a longer lasting turbo mode by increasing the temperature?*

It's fine just to leave it at factory settings and yes it only affects the higher modes run times...

What would you suggest as a sensible temperature, the default 45 degrees ?
@flashlightsuk1422
@flashlightsuk1422 3 жыл бұрын
I always set at the lower level (45) and see how well the light dissipates the heat in the first instance. I don't like 55 in partic on the IF - it felt way to hot - The heat spreads downward - something a little bigger I might on the basis the main part I'm holding is running cooler. But generally speaking I can't help thinking that heat must be damaging the light!
@iwalker3809
@iwalker3809 3 жыл бұрын
@@flashlightsuk1422 Pretty sure that heat is the main killer of emitters in household LED lightbulbs. Speaking of which, I found that for my Sofirn BLF 36, a carefully removed (plastic) frosted diffuser from a dud 60W equivalent LED bulb makes a free , easily removable, perfectly fitting lantern conversion. Sure, you can't hang it like the Sofirn lantern you've recently reviewed but hey its free. Excellent vids BTW
