Sofirn IF24Pro Video Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• So last month, I reviewed the IF24 - and a few of you mentioned rumors about a pro version being released… so I reached out to Sofirn and it was indeed true, so they sent me a sample of the IF24Pro for me to review. The IF24Pro is the perfect all-rounder flashlight that has a spot beam, flood light, and programmable RGB light. So the big difference between the pro version and the normal one is that the pro has a buck driver paired with a 5000K SFT40. This is a huge upgrade in my opinion, and while not everyone may need these extras, I certainly think it's worth considering if you want improved long-range and sustained output. The IF24 produces 2000 lumens, while the pro version produces 1800 lumens.
• What's in the box.
• Side-by-side comparison with the IF24.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Tube-style design, with one 'side' flattened off. It somehow also reminds me of those flat-style flashlights due to their similar features. Good quality machining. No imperfections or sharp edges. I like that Sofirn has included a rigid deep-carry clip too. The anodizing is matt black and grippy. I like how Sofirn have switched over to this new anodizing - makes a huge difference as I don't use lanyards. The button has a rotating outer - select various modes. The center switch is the selector. The tailcap just unscrews so you can remove or insert a 18650 cell - something you can't do on many of those flat-style lights with an inbuilt battery. USB-C onboard charging + battery indicator to the left of the port.
• 5000K SFT40 paired with a TIR lens. This greatly improves the throw when compared to the SST40 in the IF24. Glass lens over the TIR lens, stainless steel inner bezel. The side LEDs are likely to be 22x high CRI CSP1313 LEDs and 15x RGB LEDs. A frosted glass panel covers the side LEDs.
UI - modes
• Spot LED
○ Single click - on/off
○ Press and hold to ramp LMH
○ Long press for ML
○ Double press - turbo, strobe, SOS, beacon
• Side light (RGB mode)
○ Single click RGB on/off. Press and hold to change colors.
○ Double click to cycle red/blue flash, rainbow, RGB waterfall, droplets, neon fade
• Side light (flood light)
○ Same as spot function
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Best of both worlds in one package
Considerations
• Would be nice to be able to activate both the flood LEDs and spot LEDs at the same time.
• Would also be better if the light did not automatically switch on when rotating the switch. This would prevent accidental activation in your pocket. The light does have a lock mode though, and the switch isn't easily rotated.
• The side LEDs are just under the button so face the light away from you when activating the flood light or RGB mode.
• Comes at a slight premium to the normal version of the IF24. It's also not as bright on turbo (1800 lumens compared to 2000).
Verdict
• If you were thinking of getting the IF24 but changed your mind due to the unregulated driver, the IF24Pro is definitely the one for you. It's an absolute bargain for what you get. If you're looking for a pocketable light that can pretty much do it all, I'd recommend the IF24Pro. The increased throw performance with the SFT40 is impressive and rivals some of my long-range tactical flashlights, and the fact that you can replace the battery seals the deal for me.

Sadly still no smooth ramping for spotlight and no option to dimm the rgb light... I would like to have another RGB mode in which the colors are fixed so it's not as hard to get to a specific color like now (for example you want pure red and it's more like orange, then you go the other direction and it gets a little purple because you're to slow to stop at perfect time for red). And I think it would be better if the light would not turn on when turning the ring like you said. Would have gone with a smooth reflector instead of that TIR lens with the SFT40 but it's okay I guess. Would love to see a pro version of the IF23 with smooth reflector. I like the flood light on the IF23 more because of the really frosted panel over the LEDs but the sportlight is so floody that it has not enough reach for me.

I wonder if IF24 owners are mad at Sofirn for introducing the Pro version so soon! 😀 I'd buy the IF24 Pro if I really needed it but for the time being I've yet to spend two months with my IF23. I decided to go for the IF23 since it takes both the 21700 and 18650 format cells (with a tube sleeve of course) and it can also illuminate both the primary and secondary lights. Not to mention an advertised total output of 4000 lumens too but the IF23 goes wider than it goes further. More like a 70% flooder and 30% thrower. 🔦😎 Would like to see Darren pit the IF24 Pro against something like the Wurkkos TS22 with the 18650 extension tube or the Sofirn IF22A. 🙂

And the IF24Pro is only a few bucks more too! I have the IF22A and on a fully charged cell, it smokes the IF24Pro. Larger lens.

@@DarrenYeoYT Thank you sir! I've suspected just as much, since the bulbous head of the IF22A is an obvious sign of a purpose built throwy light. One needs a larger aperture and deeper reflector for that job. Is the TD01 is the long range champion vs the IF22A? Looks I have to watch all of your past videos, since I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel!🔦👍

@@StratmanIII've got an IF23, SC13, SP33 2, and C8L. In addition to all that, there's the Olight's, Wubens, Surefires, and everything in between-- so I have to find a pretty darn good reason to get an IF24 Pro! I'm a firefighter and use my IF23 at work, it's great and has held up to being banged around. I do wish it had dual springs to protect both ends of the cell during drops, but aside from that, I'm happy with it. It's super easy to clip on a pocket or belt to use the flood, and I've used it for everything from starting IVs to writing reports to putting the red flashing mode on to make myself more visible at night for traffic calls. The 21700 cell lasts plenty long, so Sofirn is going to have to come up with something really unique to get me to make another purchase-- I'd like to see things light with an IR & UV setting, for starters!

@@AmbuBadger Thank you for sharing but I'm curious. Do firefighters need to be flashoholics like yourself or they just view a flashlight as a tool to see in darkness? 🙂 In the case of department issued flashlights, who decides which models would suit the fire department? Do the individual firefighters get to pick the flashlight that they like? In most of the movies and TV shows that feature firefighters I mostly see Maglite kind of throwy flashlights, rather than flood.

@@StratmanII We fall into one of several categories, with each station & watch usually being a mix of the following: 1) guys who _only_ use what the dept gives us and then complain about it the whole time, 2) guys who get a Fenix/Surefire/OLight from a friend or family member, and they'll be content using that because it's brighter/has more modes/better/whatever than the department-issue stuff, 3) guys who buy a three-pack of whatever Costco is selling and say, "if it breaks, I've got two more, and they're rated at 1,000 lumens!" 4) guys who are flashaholics and look at the job as their version of the Army's proving grounds. We are issued Streamlites; the big boxy work lights that are mounted to charging bays on the truck are old (late 90's/early 2000's at best) and always seem broken, but we're getting modern LED replacements that seem solid; helmet lights are basically firefighting versions of the TLR pistol lights, just with different mounts and switches, very solid and they give us CR123 cells for it; and the jacket light, currently the Survivor 90950 with the shallow reflector. That one is junk as the alkalines will invariably leak and the lens bezel cracks easily (there's even a 3D print for a replacement on Thingiverse, which I've made and gave to a few of the guys). We've also got Pelican lights and gear, but I think the lights have been mostly phased out and I see lots of new Pelican battery banks at the storeroom with "DOES NOT HOLD CHARGE" tagged on it, so maybe they're not coming back either. As for the TV shows, I'm sure they assume all cops and firemen use Mag-Lites or just use whatever the prop department gives them. I've been on a few shows here as a paramedic (Hawaii 5-0), and you'll get a five dollar "prop bump" as a little bonus since guys bringing their own gear adds to the realism-- they'll just cover any large logos/name brands with gaffers tape if you're in the shot a lot.
