There would be no street art if writers didn't pave the way.

Grafitti is just another kind of art - where the rebelious and destructive elements is a part of the expression. Grafitti ticks all the boxes(of art defined), and then some. Grafitti artists dont want to make money or earn public fame. They just want to get their art out there for people to see, to gain respect for their likeminded who also refuse the establishment. In many respects, its more "art" than what educated people put on a canvas and sell in gallerys. Its solo purpose is to be seen, to make people think about what theyre doing with their life. It exists to break the norms, to battle the mainstream, to flip the bird on the establishment - to reclaim the streets. all done via an alias. and many even reject the idea theyre artists. That is in itself (some of) parts of the things that defines the soul and heartbeat of art

Yeah. Everyday you walking around your neighborhood with no representation. Like if your bedroom had nothing of your own in it. Even jail cells you can put up pictures sometimes. And even worse, if your neighborhood looks like shit. No representation and looks like shit. Like a fucking jail cell. Hip hop origin comes from the ghetto. And spread cuz, yeah, the wholeworld is a ghetto.

@@ecstasyhawk In some ways, yes. And for certain elements even more. "Established" artist dont have the same inner drive that "force" them to create. Many artists are happy just doing their thing for themself, and the biggest risk they take in order to bring their art into existance is loosing a job, - a steady income. Graffiti artists risk huge fines, jail. With that they can loose their home, and and even family. Some go to the extreme and is willing to risk their life. It is very very few artists whos willing to risk their own existence, but grafitti artist is ready to put everything on the line

Definitely made some good points which are partially true. But graffiti wasn't meant to be used as a tool or mortar to say fuck the system and act like some anarchist but less than skilled individuals decided to use it that way (banksy, shepard fairey aka OBEY for example) to gain notoriety mainly from the General Public's adolescent youth they seek fame not respect from writers or graffiti artists.... if u dont already u should check out the channle "Artist's block"

@@spwan10 someone made a book and everything theres is in it the the truth we all should follow?? cmon.. do you think theres one univeresally applicable motivator for why peeps go out and paint trains, for bombing a street? some have a msg, some wants(their tag) to be seen in the area they live, some wants it all over the city and some wants it spread all over the world. some have a msg with their tag. Some paint legal walls and some frown upon legal grafitti. Some say fuck the system, some do what the system asks them to. I looked at some of your suggestions. A few prominent names doesnt define a culture. They belong to a niche of their own. Thats the thing about art, theres no restraints and theres not any visual elements involved when we try to define art. You cant point at a line and say that one is art, this one isnt. - But the second something is created for the purpose of making money then it have lost the inner spirit of art. Art exists on its own. Its springs from an inner undefinable force wich the artist must set free. Money as motivator is not an inner force, and peoples opinion is not a reason to stop you in what it is youre doing - grafittipainters(writers is such a limiting term) - and grafitti painters takes it to the next lvl when they dgaf about fines or prison. Thats where you can see the true inner spirit set free. Thats what makes it art

All letter inspired stuff that is done with permisson is mural street art, it's irrelevant how old or how much of a legend you are. Graffiti is lettering done illegally. So farken over social media with legal murals with 100s of colors pretending to be illegal. Graffiti is done without permission
