What is your preferred knot to connect braid to your mono?
@FishyBusiness Жыл бұрын
I use a few different ones but my favourite is the FG knot. If I’m in a real hurry I will use a back to back uniknot on thin line.

Do soft plastics catch as many fish in those same rivers as on fly? I ask because i am hopeless at fly fishing and if plastics catch as many fish, i will bring try soft plastics next time i'm in NZ south Island. I normally trout fish scrub worms to great success - are they an option in the south Island rivers?
@FishyBusiness3 жыл бұрын
Yes they do

I visited the south island many yrs ago and enjoyed some great fishing using tazzie devil's, blade type spinners, and small softbaits on jig heads - my question is do you ever catch perch? I had two on a small river near Dunedin which were a welcome surprise... it'd be great to see an NZ perch film!

@@FishyBusiness I'm pretty sure I got them on the waihola river... I planned to fish lake waihola as I'd heard they were in there (this was 2003), but the weather was awful for the two days I was there and it was unnfishable but the river was a bit more sheltered. Thanks for replying 👍🎣

Modern top quality spin reels are really well sealed and it’s fresh water. Probably not the best idea I n salt water

I don't know why you compare it to fly fishing.... Spinning is a piece of piss.... No skill needed whatsoever....
@FishyBusiness3 жыл бұрын
This style of fishing is very skilful.I am a fly fisherman as well and have seen how this technique can be applied like fly fishing.Give it a go!
@fozznology3 жыл бұрын
@@FishyBusiness Yeah, I'll be right mate. I used to spin, but found it too easy, and lost interest. Started fly fishing, and has endless problem solving... love it. Tight lines
@czamprofly3 жыл бұрын
With all due respect this technique should be banned. Too simple, you risk too many anglers fishing resulting in high numbers of injured trout. NZ is a fly fishing paradise ... but everything can be ruined. My thought is that in valuable trout waters only fly fishing should be allowed.
@FishyBusiness3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment but technique doesn’t not affect numbers. Fish and Game set limits and these waters are designated for spin as well. Treble hooks do a lot more damage . Remember not everyone is a fly fisher and there are fly fishing only spots.
@FlattychasersNSW Жыл бұрын
So only people that can fly fish should be able to chase trout?
@czamprofly Жыл бұрын
@@FlattychasersNSW Thank you for the comment and I understand what you mean My is just an opinion and it is based on the experience of rivers in Italy I try to summarize it this way: if the fishing pressure is very high an effective system to keep a good population of fish in the river could be to allow only one way of fishing (and it might not even be fly fishing) Greeting
@patrickbroughton1626 Жыл бұрын
To be fair softbaiting is not as simple as it looks,there is still alot of techniques for getting the baits to work as you need. Still have to pick,cast and retrieve with skill and care to achieve optimum results.
@czamprofly Жыл бұрын
@@patrickbroughton1626 Hi David when I wrote the post a while ago I was sure I would attract some criticism, even fair criticism like yours. I agree with you, even this technique can be difficult, have several aspects to know and require commitment before you get results. But anyone can cast a softbait in the water after a few minutes of practice whereas you can't really do that with a fly. The learning curve is definitely longer and with a steeper gradient. Fly-fishing is a technique unlike others that can only be successfully applied at certain times and places, and because of this, it is considered by far the least impactful and most conservative method of sport fishing on the salmonid population worldwide. I know that this may seem like a limitation to freedom, and in principle everyone should be free to fish as they please, but if you want to preserve the treasure you have, in my opinion, there must be limits and rules, and in my opinion, in certain categories of water, only fly-fishing should be permitted. Best regards
