@@the16bitprick36 Dave has C.O.P.D., so I really don't see him doing more live work. Finished his book short while back, and they are doing a new album and the previous albums are being remastered and released on heavy vinyl. I had stubbornly always had a position that I would not see Marc solo until saw Soft Cell first. Did get to point of thinking I was just permanently rilling it out and then the news of the reunion happened. Them doing Tainted Love on top of the pops when it came out was one of my earliest music memories. The whole gig was a glorious joy, though Tainted Love/Where Did Our Live Go' & Say Hello, Wave Goodbye' made me very emotional. A gig I'll never forget.

@@spacemonkey4811 aw I didn't know that about Dave. I was the same tbh, only ever seen him at 80s festivals so he only really played soft cell tunes which is a bonus. Your lucky then, I was totally born in the wrong era (1993). Id have loved to have been a teen in the 80s, live through the rave scene and be a decent age for the brit pop era. Music out now is not to my taste so that's why I love the 80s festivals. Had about 5 lined up this summer but that's all gone tits up through covid so next year will hopefully be a big one!
@spacemonkey48114 жыл бұрын
@@the16bitprick36 I was only born in 76, so would have been 5. I was already into Adam and the Ants by then due to the Kings album. Seeing Tainted Love on TOTP was my equivalent of seeing Bowie on same show for those a bit older than me. It was my first awareness that this was my kinda thing and I was not conventional. I also had a whole summer of gigs scuppered, thankfully I have managed to plot a similar itinerary for next summer, so here's hoping pesky Covid is done and dusted by then.

Heard this in a recent episode of a show, probably 3 to 4 years back it came out, and I'm thinking "this sounds just like 80s new wave, is that style coming back?!", only to find it's a great 80s ft, Soft Cell. Their other hits got such massive airplay, you forget songs like this... It even crossed my mind "this sounds like Soft Cell", but the show is contemporary, doesn't fetishize the 80s, so I didn't think it was an older song. Glad they got some airplay, though.

Standin' in the door of the Pink Flamingo cryin' in the rain It was a kind of so-so love And I'm gonna make sure it never happens again You and I, it had to be the standing joke of the year You were a sleep-around, a lost and found and not for me, I feel I tried to make it work, you in a cocktail skirt And me in a suit but it just wasn't me You're used to wearing less And now your life's a mess, so insecure you see I put up with all the scenes And this is one scene that's goin' to be played my way Take your hands off me, hey I don't belong to you, you see And take a look in my face, for the last time, I never knew you, you never knew me, Say hello goodbye, Say hello and wave goodbye Under the deep red light I can see the make-up slidin' down Hey little girl you will always make up So take off that unbecoming frown What about me, well, I'll find someone That's not goin' cheap in the sales A nice little housewife, who'll give me a steady life And won't keep going off the rails Take your hands off me I don't belong to you, you see Take a look in my face, for the last time I never knew you, you never knew me Say hello goodbye Say hello and wave goodbye We've been involved for quite a while now And to keep you a secret, has been hell We're strangers meeting for the first time, ok? Just smile and say hello Say hello then wave goodbye Say hello then wave goodbye Say hello then wave goodbye Say hello then wave goodbye Say hello, wave goodbye Say hello then wave goodbye Say hello, say goodbye Goodbye Say goodbye Goodbye
