respectfully, after research due to their soft shells, its not ideal to use any small rocks but sand and or mud. These turtles ( I have one) a very soft shell and tend to dig a lot. Great video!

While I agree with most of what you say, they do live in mountain lakes full of rock. So just keep an eye on them and make sure nothing is going wrong! Most of keeping these animals healthy and happy is watching them!

Great tank. What process/products did you use to clean and disinfect the driftwood by chance? Thanks for the vid!

I will usually only rinse off the wood with a pressure washer and if it will fit in my over ill heat them up to the lowest setting the oven will go for aa couple hours. The rinsing seems to be doing a majority of it.

I just found one of these little guys in my backyard. Must of been someone’s pet. But I’ve decided to be it’s mother now haha. Do you know any good websites on how to take care of them? (Cleaning tank/feeding/what they like ect)

Wow! Rare to see them walking around out of water. They get MASSIVE so i gigantic pond is what youll really want. They are garbage disposals of fish, turtle pelletts, and possibly snails if they live in your waterway. I would NOT reccommend a tank as a permanent enclosure. These turtles can get 30 or more inches across.... Good luck they are super cool!

Have you ever had any issues with using gravel as a substrate?
@TheReptileRoom13 жыл бұрын
I havnt seen the turtle have any issues with the sandy small gravel mix i have in there. He's super strong and can still easily fully bury himself to hide like they do in the wild.

@@paulblart9953 absolutely! Do you have or are you considering getting one of these guys? Cause heads up they get MASSIVE.

@@TheReptileRoom1 I’ve been considering getting one. I’ve been researching their care requirements as well as looking at other people’s experiences with them, so I’m well aware of how big they can get.

@@paulblart9953 Heck yeah! A nice backyard pond with some koi and the softshell (something im working on also) would be fantastic. I have seen plenty in the wild and none seem to come out of the water except to lay eggs. So you shouldnt have a runaway situation. Theyre just a fresh water seaturtle lol
