HB Studios deserves a TON of credit for basically revitalizing this entire genre even before 2K got involved. The three "Golf Club" games were detailed, fun sims with solid online play and course creation. Once 2K got onboard and they attained the PGA TOUR license in "Golf Club 2019," it was off to the races. PGA TOUR 2K25 is going to be awesome, only thing left for them to do now is get the rights to The Masters/Augusta National.

excellent video. This jump from 2k23 from 2k25 seems like the biggest yet for the franchise and with having some devs from the EA golf game help with this title it seems like they are bringing together the best of both worlds.

The nice thing about the PGA 2K series is that they have created a really solid foundation, while the jump from 21 to 23 was indeed not massive it was a refinement of that foundation. It almost guarantees follow up games will be good if you are simply into golf games because it seems fairly easy to expand on what they already have right. With 25 it seems like they have done just that and expanded on what needed expanding on, more shot types adds depth, i think they are up to around 26 different shot types which is more than EA's latest effort has and that itself was shaming 2K23 on shot variety so they needed to get those in. The course creator has been solid so any expansion on that was always going to go down well and so on etc. Unless they tragically mess up the swing timing or feel which is unlikely - they will be taking what was a solid golf game and making it better which is all anybody really wants from a golf game or sports game generally. The development cycle for PGA really benefits the series for sure because its much more likely to feel like a worthwhile refinement when it comes, yearly release sports titles often feel like they are screaming out for a complete rewrite and overhaul and thats solely down to players feeling like nothing changes for multiple years in a row. With all that said... it will be riddled with microtransactions, they simply cant help it, but it never ruins the core game fortunately.

I'd love to see a video on Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14. Specifically, Masters Historic edition. It might be the single greatest golf game ever, imo. You can play as players and courses from 1870 to present and it was the first game to have all 4 of the majors were in the game as well. Highly recommend it!

Golf games are the only sports games I play now.. I have both EA and 2K golf games. 2K is better solely because of the user created courses. People are so creative.

@@keithwalter506 I think the swing timing is better on 2K also, it’s a subtle thing but one that makes a big difference to realism but EA had a slow backswing by about half a second, enough to just not feel right. I’m not sure it’s subjective either, I just don’t think players generally back swing that slow, 2K pretty much nails it. Besides that and a few sounds EA did have it wrapped up though.

Definitely getting 2k25, got the platinum trophies on 2k23 twice on Playstation. Only reason I want early access is to win the majors early, then spend the rest of the time on community creation courses.

Nice work, Softdrink! I remember playing the hell out of one of the ps3 Tiger Woods titles. It was the first non-Fifa title I felt I mastered enough to bump the difficulty up to make AI scores more challenging. I also liked, on the arcadey side, the way you could control ball spin mid-flight and also hook or slice a shot with the shot stick to get it where you wanted it. It was the first game I actually felt I was on the way to understand the way the shot stick worked. I remember it because it was before courses started getting locked behind in-game currency paywalls or player performances. One of the later ones, I believe, had you renting certain courses until you mastered them under par iirc then it was unlocked.

A retrospective on Tiger Woods 2010 on the Wii would be cool, it was the first TW game to use the motion plus add on for the Wiimote and was brilliant! Man, just played 2K25 demo (free on Steam), and I'm actually very positively surprised how good the game is. New real time mouse swing and new 4-click system are amazing. It's really satisfying hitting good balls now on Master level. Physics are great, visuals are on par with EA PGA TOUR, audio is fantastic. I see this game already in my Steam library.

Tiger Woods 2004 is the best golf game ever. Newer games got too realistic. I liked the acarde style pick up and play gameplay of that era of Tiger Woods. 2003 2004 and 2005 were the peak for me and my friends. Anyone can play those era games and have fun and play competitively. It's a great party game. You should do a video about those games Soft drink.

I have the last one 2k23 and overall liked it. One thing I felt was terrible was the golfer customization like outfits, how you look, etc. It was really limited and you couldn’t create another profile or golfer besides the one who initially created, like if you want a male or female golfer. If they just improve that and keep gameplay same I would think it would be a big improvement. Hopefully more in this game. Still have some loyalty to Tiger as I probably buy this one just cuz he’s on it. Flashbacks to how I felt when I was a kid lol

The best thing about the old tiger woods games was being able to spin the ball and change spin direction mid air to correct for any bad swing. Always fun but no golf games do it anymore

2k games have always set the standard for best gameplay in the last few decades. The microtransactions plague the NBA 2k series career mode and it got toxic the last 5 or so years. And yes, please review this game!!! You have 10k views in 9 hours already. 🙂

23 was different than 21, but mostly in the off the course systems, rather gameplay changes. Also, as sports franchise matures, the gameplay changes become much more subtle. Granted, 25 looks like a big change in gameplay and modes of play. Super excited for the game. My one big concern is a lot of the market for this game seems to be folks still playing on ps4 and 2nd gen Xbox. I hope moving to a new console only release doesn’t kill sales of the game. I want the game to succeed so they continue to invest in future versions of the game.

I preordered the game and golf games are one of my favorite things. I use the settings from TGC tours to make it as realistic as possible with one caveat: I leave the green grids on. But, I may leave them off for 2K25 if the graphics are great. Can’t wait.

The reason why 2K25 looks significantly better is because its a current gen game only so it makes a difference. Also, the 2 year development cycle only creates the illusion that the changes are more than they actually are because it takes less versions of the game but if it was an annual release we'd be right where we are right now anyway. And no, I'm not supporting yearly releases but 2 year development cycle for a sports title isn't nearly as significant as its made out to be.

I agree that new sports games should be be released at least every 2 years, but even with that extra time, some games can end up being worse than older ones. For example, the AFL (Australian Football League) games have had biannual (or longer) releases since 2011's AFL Live. Unfortunately the license has been going around between 2 different developers, Big Ant Studios and Wicked Witch Software. Most people say that the Wicked Witch AFL games are inferior to the Big Ant AFL games
