Feb. 3,2023 @11:01am I'm a caregiver for an elderly patient with dementia who just had a rough morning. After settling her into her recliner, I played this song for her. She is now relaxed and sleeping. God is good! He calms the confusion and brings rest to the soul and mind. ❤️

@@Marie-xm1gu Thanks for your entry (as well for the security guard’s original post). I took a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education many years ago and was assigned to an adult day care ward. As well as to another ward with full time residents, some of whole had dementia. People with dementia tend to feel lost and often don’t know why. As a student chaplain, what I did was bring my guitar and played old time hymns similar to this song. It always made the difference. Even those who couldn’t remember their names, suddenly were able to remember the lyrics of songs like How Great Thou Art. Music, especially worship music, has an unique ability to bring the best of out of us. When David played his harp in Saul’s Court - it brought Saul peace of mind (and King Saul likely had a terrible case of dementia going-on at the time) There is a beautiful movie called A Trip to Bountiful and it’s on KZbin. They haven’t taken it down. Softly and Tenderly is the theme song. Check it out. God bless

I too felt this same way when I was your age. I was in college & joined the Baptist Student Union, where I met wonderful Christian friends who made me feel welcomed & loved. Although I felt very burdened by a sense of who I was & wanted to know the truth of how to change my life from all the hurting. I hope you see my message and that you are in a better place. Jesus calls us as individuals, so in different ways. so I will pray that your heart is closer to Jesus & you know how much he cares & loves you.

One of the most beautiful hymns I know that reminds me of the price Jesus paid for us, then asks us to come to Him as we are, ready to receive us if we are willing and obedient. Though we strive so much to make "a living", the true living as we know it shall be through what He has prepared for us in the life to come, eternally with Him in our new homes prepared for us by our Lord. Indeed Lord Jesus, we have found great refuge in Your presence and look forward to when You will either come back to rule here on earth or You call us "home" to You. Maranatha!

If that's the case, I suspect there will be some, perhaps many, who will miss you when you go to be with the Lord. Look at it this way. You have lived in a little shack down here on earth for as long as you can remember. Right over the hill is a beautiful mansion, made perfectly, just for you!! I hope you can go there rejoicing. Finally- a hymn that is sung properly, at a proper tempo, with good harmony and no jazzed up instrumentals. It almost seems as thought people have forgotten how to sing hymns, perhaps because so many have forgotten hymns altogether. Hymns have largely been replaced by "christianized" pop music performed by entertainers.

Today, I attended the funeral of one of my mother's friends at a local Presbyterian Church. She lived to be 102. This was the Processional Hymn.

Although "Softly and Tenderly" is frequently listed as an invitation song (altar call), it also well fits circumstances of the approach of life's end--i.e., it works as a funeral hymn.

And it fits me, whenever I stray in my walk, talk and thoughts as I endeavor by the Holy Spirit's help to journey with God the Father. It fits me every minute of every day when the Holy Spirit points out my erring ways. Today was one such day. He led me to Matthew 18 on forgiving others always, especially when they cause you to sin; and then, by His Spirit, He led me to this beautiful hymn of His mercy, grace and love toward us all. Thank you Lord Jesus and thank you brother. In Christ with you, Arlette McNeill

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! - I John 3:1

This is the very song sung during the end of evangelistic sermon that invited me to come to Christ Jesus my Savior and Lord. I cannot remember the sermon or part of it, but this song and tune stayed on in my mind. Thank you my Lord and my God.

With songs like this, it's easy to see why God created music. It speaks to us in a way that almost no one can and captures our minds and hearts.

Why should we worry when Jesus is pleading, Jesus is pleading for you and I. Why should we linger and hear not his mercies, his mercies for you and for me, his mercies for you and I. Come home, come home, come home, ye who are weary come home. Earnestly and tenderly Jesus is calling, Jesus is calling for you and I.

Here's a poem for all who get weary in any circumstance. . A special read for John Keefer and Lois.. I wrote it when I moved into stage 4 inoperable cancer. WAITING ON THE LORD by I. Jackson copyright 2014 Help me my Lord, what should I do? I’ll now let go and now let you, guide me oh Lord and heal my soul from heavy heart with painful goal. I called you boldly not in shame. Where were you my Lord when I called your name? I prayed to you with so much praise I prayed to you for so many a days. Did you not see me dance for you, while silently singing a song or two? My hands held high to give you praise Come help your child, end earthly days. I’m crying out, what more to do? With solemn faith I've waited for you. He then spoke softly in my ear So sweet, so kind, I had no fear . “My child you are able to think and write, I have been with you both day and night, I will act in due time, keep your faithful stand, It’s MY will be done for I Am That I Am.” dance = Holy Ghost dancing
