@deermeatfordinner hey man Ashton here from denham springs LA do you know any programs that could help a single father like me out. Been out of work because of the coronavirus and food is getting low and I paid the bills would love to come fish or hunt for I can put meat on the table or something I'm not the one to ask for hand outs. Thank you for y'all and good bless man.

@@ashtonmclin3132 Ashton, have you considered doing a KZbin channel? My channel is not monetized, but I looked on the site that shows what we should make if we monetized it... I would have made $10,000 already with just a few hits that I've had, as far as views, subscribers and thumbs up. I'm retired with a good income and don't need extra income. But for people still in the works force... There is a young man I know who started a channel named "Ty PigPatrol" for fishing during his lunch break and after his work. In 18 months, he's developed 150,000+ subs and has traveled the world fishing. He bought and paid for his new house, and has managed to (somewhat) retain his humility. This is something you should consider, especially regarding that you love to fish and hunt and we *ALL* love to watch that! You would be surprised how quickly you'd be back to paying bills again! Think about it, and God Bless you.

I’ve been watching for a long time now and having just binged a couple of your older episodes, you remind me so much of my dad and I can never express how much that’ll mean to me. Prayers be with everybody on this day and please hold your loved ones a little tighter tonight, for me.

When I was 8 years old my parents shipped their fishing boat to Puerto Vallarta from Long beach California. (My dad was a Dr. and could afford such luxary's), and would do Marlin/Swordfish Tournaments. At night they would line up a bunch of table's on the beach and have a Huge BBQ and Fiesta on their catch and cook for the day. Part of their catch and cook was Turtle soup!! Before it was illigal, it must of been 1975. I have photos of us kids actually dishing out turtle soup on the beach from the Shell of the turtle. They made the soup and dished it out in the sea turtles shell for decorations. Me and my siblings loved it!! Thanks for bringing back memories from the past man!! Loved it. When I move to florida in July I'm soooo doing this with my kids.

I only recently “discovered” your channel, you and, of course your wonderful family. Like your girls, I was introduced to the wonders of fishing at the young age of two. I introduced my children and grandchildren to this magical world when they were all two. I’ve been fishing now for 70 years and it not lost any of its joy or wonderment in all those years. I congratulate you on the way you and Sarah have chosen to parent your girls There is a downside, however, to watching your channel. Having lived through six heart attacks and one incident of cardiac arrest, I am suppose to get plenty of rest at night. Now the I have found your channel, every night I begin watching it around ten o’clock and don’t go to bed before three and sometimes four in the morning. Then I get up at 7:30 to begin my day. So, as you can very easily see, you are not good for my health .😉😁. However, being happy is also good for my health so watching the activities of you and your family make me feel fantastic, so , I think happiness outweighs rest therefore, you are excellent for my health. This is just a long winded way of letting you know that you and your family are probably going to be responsible for me living another 72 years. God’s Blessings to you, Sarah and the girls

I have no personal objection to animals being butchered and I didn't dislike the video, but I think you should consider your argument further. If you or I believed the slaughter of animals was unethical, don't you think it would make sense to oppose it however possible (even if that opposition just takes the form of a youtube dislike)? Imagine if someone made a video where they showed their four-year-old to climb deep into a coal mine to get some hard-to-reach pieces. Some might argue that this is an abuse and/or exploitation of the child, while others might argue they are honestly contributing to the family's wellbeing. Even if we are in the camp of the latter, I think we can understand and accept the logic of people that are in the former however much we might disagree. I'm not sure if that example helped explain, but I'm basically saying that, though I do not agree with the sentiment, I do not think people disliking this video over the slaughter of animals are wrong to do so. Their perspective, though not aligned with mine, is not entirely without merit.

Oh, Rob, I have a recipe for turtle that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I spend more time at my house in Mexico than I do in the USA, and turtle hunting is illegal here due to overhunting. But the Pennsylvania, Texas and north Carolina snappers are so big the won't drop into a 55 gallon drum. Medium size turtles (20 pounds) are the best eating. I've developed a way to clean turtles that only takes 45 minutes, and it's completely clean, ready to eat, sectioned out like quartering a chicken. To remove the tenderloin, I use pliers to snap off the ribs attached to the shell, and cut the loin away with a fillet knife. I fry those, too. I deep fry the meat like chicken, and it's SO GOOD! I use Lawry's seasoning salt but want to try it with Everglades one day.

I really like how this man shows everybody how to gut, skin, and cook everything he catches. My grandpa in Alabama had a stroke in his late 80's and all the man could say after that was doo doo doo doo doo, except when he cussed. I dont understand why good people have to go through such b.s. illnesses/tragities??😒..... it is what it is... we cannot question GODS plan for us all, all we can do is teach others the down to earth way of life that GOD intended for us to live and go from there!....🤕😀

Why is it I can handle him killing deer and every other animal, but when I see him kill turtles it breaks my heart.
@RS-hc9xs
@RS-hc9xs 4 жыл бұрын
I can't recall the psychological term, but I believe there is some research about how our willingness to kill and consume an animal is connected to how much we can disconnect from it or impersonalize it. That is to say, the more we project human consciousness, emotions, etc upon a creature the less palatable it seems. I'm not sure if it's universal, though, and I think maybe it's mostly tied to urban populations that do not generally have the experience of raising and killing their own protein sources. Which is all just to say that perhaps you have some history personifying or building emotional ties to turtles from your life, and consequently they seem less like a viable food source for you and more like a viable friend source.

@JHAT813GMAIL
@JHAT813GMAIL 4 жыл бұрын
Great video Rob. But let me share a secret with you. I use to harvest these as a teenager in high school. They were a unintentional by product of fish farming tropical fish and were eating pools of fish. With that being said, I want to give you a tip on cleaning the turtle. Softshell Turtle Meat should look and taste like chicken and in my opinion it taste better than chicken. Anyways, that meat you were cooking looked bloody and red and that's because the turtle didnt bleed out properly. The best way to bleed them is and this may sound cruel but its quick and easy for the Turtle, if someone is helping you. Now you take a 16 penny nail and drive it through a 2x10 or 12, what ever you got, then bend the nail upward to create a hook. Make sure you have a sharp knife. Now one person grab the Turtle and get it to poke its head out of the shell and as soon as it does you hook the turtles bottom lip with the nail and you are pressing down and pulling the shell downwards away from the nail to stretch the turtles neck out. The other person then cuts the head off from just above the shell where it comes out. We never ate the neck. You also do it this way to insure a proper bleed out. The key is to get all the blood out of the turtle. You then turn the Turtle upside down so it can bleed out. Not on its back, but straight up and down with the rear in the air. The turtle will then bleed out correctly and you will have meat that looks like chicken breast. Always take the fat off. I like to use a pair of catfish skining pliers. Those work real well when your doing a bunch. We always used Everglades seasoning and cornmeal and fried them in Peanut Oil. You can even soak them in some buttermilk for a little while just to kick it up a notch. I use to be so proficient in cleaning softshell turtle, I could clean one in about 45 seconds. The man who taught me, could do it in about 20 seconds. That's how many turtles I have seen, cleaned and ate. Good stuff.
