Thank you for the video! Certainly a good step in the direction of user mapping of 3rd party plugins. I would love to see the ability to save a map with the name of the plugin and the ability to label each knob's mapping. This would allow permanent mapping for plugins and the ability to select them on screen. Now that would be next level.
@ToddUrban2 күн бұрын
Agreed. I am not a developer, so I am not sure what is possible in terms of recalling individual plugins with mappings. But I think this is the start of a lot of great things. When it comes to plug-ins, the FabFilter and UAD stuff is so good and perfectly integrated, that I'm mostly covered. But yes, I'm looking forward to what is to come.
@mariomedina7077Күн бұрын
Agreed. That would make this a great buy. As is, though, it's a non-starter. I'm not gonna jack with doing that mapping every time, and trying to remember the name/label/function for each mapped fader.
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
@@mariomedina7077understood. It is definitely more for temporary control when you need to use it, rather than for mapping and recalling everything. Some people seem to love it, and for others, it is more of an occasional use case.
@williamholder2969Күн бұрын
Thanks Todd for the video, I always enjoy your videos! I was initially really excited about this new feature, but if you can’t label what knob or fader controls what and if it can’t remember the the custom mappings it is indeed a non-starter. Hopefully SoftTube can figure out a way to implement these capabilities in a future update. On a side note the Nektar Panorama CS12 can remember custom settings and has a ingenious way of labeling the knobs and buttons which in practice is essential, but it currently only works with Logic Pro and can only work with audio fx plugins not virtual instruments. I’m a Logic user and and the CS-12 works pretty well.
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
Understood. I think in this case, it is more that the hardware are turning into generic midi mapping controllers similar to any keyboard. I’ll check out what Nektar is doing. It might be that it is limited to only one DAW, which might make it easier. Of course I’m also not a developer, so my knowledge of what is possible is limited to only the features I get to see. ;)

Since this is midi cc then its not the same fine resolution on knob as it is for console plugins or uad/fab?
@ToddUrban2 күн бұрын
Yes. The Analog Feel is available only when working within Console 1. When you MIDI map to products outside the system, you will be limited to the 0-127 resolution that MIDI offers.
@REOvolt2 күн бұрын
Most important question: can you midi map per per VST? From what it seems these are global mappings. Cool idea though, but I guess it could be improved so you can recall midi mappings per plugin to be a part of your stored channel settings. Will give it a go asap. Thanks 🙏🏻
@ToddUrban2 күн бұрын
As of now, you are correct, it is communicating MIDI CC either per slot or per fader as you customize it. Technically, it is the same as generic MIDI mapping of any controller, except you have the ability to decide where those mappings go. For me, it isn't something I'll use with every product or on every mix. Instead, it is there for me when I need to control or automate something as part of my creative workflow. I'll probably just delete that mapping in the DAW when I'm done, as it is more of a 1 and done type feature. Where have I been using it the most? Honestly, filter cutoff, resonance, and similar synth parameters.

This is a great step forward!! I’m blown away by how well Softube listens to their user base and also how quickly they implement the features their users ask for! Well done 👏🏼👏🏼 Hopefully they will indeed refine the implementation. To make it a bit more flexible, but I’m excited already! I’ll give it a go soon

Can you change the MIDI names so they match what they control? For example, in Addictive drums, if I want to control the kick fader, can we change the MIDI CC on the console 1 fader to read "Kick"? Also, will the commands stay put if I exit midi mode on the fader, then switch back to the generic mixing console 1 functions? Or would they need to be reassigned when being used again?
@ToddUrban21 сағат бұрын
As of now, there is no way to change names. But in terms of switching back to C1 and back, yes, it will retain your settings.

Great news! But there's one thing I don't understand. Let's say I'm already using console 1 on a channel, all the knobs are occupied by it and I want to add a plugin and manipulate it from the console...how do I do it, since all the knobs are already occupied?
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
Well you have several sections that can be mapped. If you are out of sections, you can also map to fader. And if you are out of those, I guess just use a map. It is a feature that might not work for every use case, but at least adds flexibility to give some more control for people who need it in the moment.

I have "Plugin failed to load" when using MIDI CC module as EQ with my mkII console 1. Do I have to pay for this feature?
@ToddUrban22 сағат бұрын
You need the Mk III to be able to communicate with MIDI and C1 at once. You can switch a Mk II unit to only midi though.

Thank you Todd ! Pretty amazing ! Is the faders follow automaticaly when moving an assigned knob with CC ? Actually , my faders dont moves or follow when changing a parameter with the mouse. Thanks !
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
Are you talking about Console 1 Fader’s faders moving when you turn a knob on Channel? If so, think of them about being separate environments. For example, I can map CC 0 to a parameter on Channel and then a different parameter to CC 0 on Fader
@pierrepicotКүн бұрын
@ToddUrban I'm talking of the faders of the Fader and assigned knobs on a vst ! Like you in this video, you move a parameter with the mouse on the vst and the fader follow ! Actually, mine doesn't follow 🤔
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
Oh. I misunderstood. I would need to check if it works both ways for all products, I’ve only tested it with some product. I would assume it does. I’ll report back if I get a chance to try it again and learn more.

@@pierrepicot Ok. I just took a look in Logic at about 20 different 3rd party products. Fader controlled them and if I use the mouse, Fader followed where I put the parameter. If you aren't getting that behavior, let support know some details so Softube can investigate. Maybe certain DAWs or certain plugins have issues? It is possible.
@hipnoise_studio2 күн бұрын
Can you elaborate on how that implementation will work with Console 1/Fader MKII? Changelog for this update just says "MK I/II units: Added option for the HW to be used as a specific MIDI-controller while the On-Screen-Display is running", which is a bit vague. Thanks in advance!
@ToddUrban2 күн бұрын
I would need to check on the Mk I/II units. As of now, the MIDI Fader mode and the mapping to midi modules is for Mk III units. But the changeling you are referring to is that I believe you can put your Mk I or II units into a MIDI mode as long as a Mk III unit is running. Basically, this adds them as an additional controller. But I think you will always need at least one Mk III unit to be able to communicate the number of MIDI channels needed. I'll see if I can find out more.

Can you assign midi cc in pro tools on console 1?
@ToddUrbanКүн бұрын
Pro Tools is different, as you can assign to plugins that have MIDI Mapping available such as FabFilter or Model Series synths. So it is product dependent.
