You accidentally worked out what the issue with the EAN tests has been. Local monitoring of the outgoing alert being relayed was getting picked up by the live voice microphone, therefore essentially feeding back into itself. That's why the audio quality of them has been terrible on the NPT and EAN tests, the feedback gets worse and worse each time it gets relayed.

I designed and built a (pair of) decoder/encoder around a 6502 MPU... Nice work you've done there! KUDOS. My systems did correctly decode the chirps played in this video, using a microphone held near a PC speaker. Be proud of your work; I know what it took to do what you have done. :-)

Some one out there has actually an eas and has actually opened one up in kind of strange video not me of course or any one i know personalty but it is interesting i saw what is in side there is apparently a pcm mu-law memory pack card for the logging and start up and a computer board apparently unex or linex type of thing also wired to the switches and lights and relays and power pack inside a case made of at least partially conductive material for some shielding effect.

I have heard that clearing the logs is not possible on an eas device appliance i am just curious why that is so what i am wondering about is why it is impossible to clear the logs on an eas unit i have heard you really have tried.

I feel like this is one of those technically legal grey areas that might get you put on a list but as long as you dont broadcast the signal over a wide area they wont come and bust your door down haha. Very good program you made there!

problem is, if anyone could use it, a lot of people would use it for the wrong reasons. Instead of just using it for experimentation, some people would create fake emergency messages and make a mass panic as a prank

For the TTS Option in the Audio Message Portion, did you program it to just use the Computer's Default TTS Voice or does it use a specific voice?

I basically connect the output of one encoder to the input of the other. As for how to maliciously activate the EAS, it is possible, but I prefer not to share. Im sure you understand.

If used improperly or maliciously, absolutely. However, if set up and configured properly, there is no risk of valid EAS tones broadcasting on any public radio or television stations.

If it is, since it can generate valid tones, some of the settings will be EXTREMELY restricted... such as which alerts can be sent, EAS Participant will be the only originator, etc... At this point however, I dont think I will release it.

@@tor94 that's pricey. I want to get a sage EAS endec model 1822 as well but those are hard to find. My goal is to have a ham radio setup with the computers like you have but mine would also be running the endec along with multiple monitors for weather surveillance via radar scope and the nws website and also the alerting setup. I'd also be trying to run a live feed via social media and KZbin during weather events when I could and basically my desire is to be able to run the endec to the live to alert others watching.

@@stackza8740 At this point, I had just finished a C++ programming class. Took a ton of unoptimized code and Google to complete. Its just C# and the Visual Studio GUI editor. Have since learned more to make a better program.
