Dan's videos are so full of specific useful advice. At this point he's definitely my guy. Always gives me the data i'm looking for. Except for this video. First off he said he wanted rustic. He got lemonade. After cringing while mentioning this at times in the video at the end he said "Tim did an amazing job." Definition of amazing: "startlingly impressive." Nothing impressive about the wrong color of the set piece. One thing I learned from watching this video is how utterly important it is to have a check sheet for a project to be signed off on every step of the way so this can't happen. When the purchaser bought the stain could they have signed off on rustic? Could the carpenter have signed off on rustic? No and no. If there were a checksheet the backdrop never would have shown up in the studio looking like Mike's Hard Lemonade stand. So, as a teaching tool for projects this was good to illustrate what can go wrong if the ideal scene is not strictly adhered to. This color was definitely a departure from the ideal scene. The additional data I would like to have seen in this video would have been software project examples. For instance what project did Dan have 2 weeks to complete? How did he do it? Did he finish it in two weeks? Was it exactly what the boss asked for or was it Mike's hard lemonade? I didn't learn in this video specifically how Dan got projects done on time and on budget. Most of his videos are not like this. Perhaps the new studio threw him off his game a bit. Perhaps the fumes from the lemonade affected him. Hopefully the real video is on its way. But, thanks Dan for all the great videos that you've made leading up to this one!

I think you needed to set expectations on this one bud. A lot of what you said is useful for absolute beginners. I would suggest saying that at the beginning of the video. It was also pretty long winded. I've had classes that talked about project management and they covered all this, so I understood what you were trying to get across. Just like testing out software you gotta test out your script. Pay other people a bit to read over your scripts before you set out making a video. This is from 2017 though so you probably know better already.

Awesome tips, thank you! How do you explain the specs if you are not trained or have experience with building software? I don't know how to communicate details when I don't know what the details are. All I know is the big picture of what I want to build. Maybe hire a software developer coach? Or is the clickable prototype enough detail?

@@danmartell First off, this has nothing to do with appreciation of the content. As when you get down to the core of the video (4:00 - 8:55), the points you are making are valid. The point I was making was that this video was extremely verbose, and not to the benefit of the user. The first four minutes of this video could be cut off, and nothing would be lost to the user. But what would have happened if this video was only 6 minutes instead of 10? 1. Your video would have ranked lower because KZbin prioritizes longer content. 2. You wouldn't be given the ability to put multiple ads in various points in the video, and thus would be making about half of what you're making now. (i.imgur.com/DhnHclB.png) This has led to an abundance of KZbin content creators who are publishing increasingly verbose content so they can reach the 10-minute mark. I'm sure that you think you're doing this out of necessity but in reality, it is only to the detriment of your channel. This is why channels such as Traversy Media over half a million subscribers, while yours struggles to get to 50k. They don't care about reaching the 10-minute mark since it happens naturally anyway. Now look I get it, content creators don't like negative feedback. They internalize it by making it some all or nothing statement. But as I said, there is quality to what you're saying, you just need to dig for it. I don't feel like finding the 4:00 - 8:55 mark of all your videos, and so I'm not going to subscribe. I would be interested in seeing the analytics of this video. How many users are leaving before they reach the 4:00 mark on this video? Look you can either just disregard what I'm saying as me being a troll "who doesn't appreciate your videos", or you could take into consideration the points I've taken the time to lay-out. Most will just click off your video when they start hearing a bunch of words with little substance.
