Correct me if I am wrong, But it was my thought that the check valves purpose was to prevent Bleach from entering into the water tank.

@@paulsuli3581 that is correct but as a side effect they do also provide some inlet restriction.

Any thoughts about the check valves using a gravity ball instead of a flap ?

A bumpy ride down the road can easily lead to chemical swapping places when there is not a small amount of force keeping any check mechanism in place.
