Seeing these video really lets you know that a huge part of who you become is based on pure luck. We don’t get to pick our parents, our race, our sex, the financial situation we’re born into, the location we born, or the trauma we will or will not endure as a child.

Great thought 👍! I'm a simple person myself and I don't have much of anything except my dream car (ford edge) I just bought, a twin size bed in my mother's living room, my fishing tackle and rods, and paint brushes and paints. One shouldn't need a boatload of thing's, family and friends are the most important. And bragging about things people own seem to be the new thing in this country, hopefully people will start to donate all their useless clutter so others can enjoy soon. Why pile up things that get dusty right? One man's junk is another man's treasure 😉

Dhardy The younger ones would probably WANT to talk but because of their strict code of keeping the heathen ( I say that because that is how they see us) world from contaminating their world, they wouldn’t dare! They can be excommunicated for talking to outsiders about their inner circles. I would love to hear an interview as well but the only ones I have seen have been from shunned Amish and they STILL don’t tell anything that we don’t already know.
@SeemsLogical
@SeemsLogical 3 жыл бұрын
At the age of 16 the Amish youth are sent out into the world to experience "Rumspringa." It's a 2 year period where they live apart from the Amish community and live a largely secular life. After the 2 years are up they must decide to rejoin the community or live in the secular world. Most choose to go back because to live in secular life would involve being shunned by your parents, siblings and everyone else in the community. These Rumspringa youths would be permitted to talk to Mark Laita but 2 years is a short time to experience everything the world has to offer so they may just want to do other things with their time.
@JenniV1Alaska
@JenniV1Alaska 3 жыл бұрын
SeemsLogical It’s actually 18 to 21 now and it’s only a year, but it could have been expanded to two years since I last looked. Most times though, even AFTER Rumspringa, they choose to commit to the lifestyle and go home because all they have ever known was their community and the outside world, at first, is exciting because it’s new with no rules however, they generally tend to find out it is empty and not what they fantasized about so they go back to the warmth and comfort of what they have known their entire lives as choosing to live outside of that is a lonely prospect because it would mean being cut off from family and friends.

That's the nature of what happens when the federal government gets too big and too powerful. State/Local politics continue to mean less and less, eroding freedoms of those communities to govern themselves as they see fit (within laws of constitution). How it is now, we have about 150 million people who think one way, and 150 million people who think another. When the federal government is so powerful, this will lead to pure tribalism & this is why democracy at a federal level is inherently flawed. We need to return to a true United States of America. Not a centralized state of America with de facto federal colonies.

It's hard enough to survive poor, but living through domestic abuse & hearing loss do to your abusive husband is a terrible thing to go through. I just called the law on my neighbor guy who kept beating his girlfriend's face in, he's in jail now and this was his 4th offense so he's looking at 11yrs. And I don't feel bad one bit. My neighbor lady's face is still black n blue and she can't even open one eye bcus it's swollen shut. And she has an adopted son that's 6, and he even jumped on the guys back to pull him off his mommy. I heard thumping real loud nextdoor and the curtain flailing and ran outside where he got in my face to call me names and I stood my ground as I was on the phone with 911 and they sent a police dog to find him when he ran and he was hiding on top of their shed. I'm not ashamed of being a snitch, I saved 2 lives that day.

Upon visiting a rural area in Kentucky (pikeville county) I very quickly learned how rural: My Granddad shack he was born in we visited on side of a mountain, the new couple there have not been off the mountain in 7 years! And the husband says first truck he seen in 5 years drive up there! He was BUCK NAKED when we drove up...besides his shotgun in hand(not his natural gun either)

Hey Mark great work I think you make a great difference and help alot of people. I would think you're a real busy individual, but if you so happen to have time. You should look into Ronnie Long's story from north Carolina. He was wrongfully convicted and did 44yrs in the penitentiary. He was just released, when with held evidence was brought to light. He is 65 now and needs more people to hear his story. He was the last interview on "other peoples lives" on Spotify. Like I said know your busy just thought it should be on your radar.
