Gambling is the worst thing that ever happen to me. Video poker to be exact. Lost over $2 million in the past 5 years and have over $270k in credit card debt and loans. Just yesterday I relapse and lost another $10k which was suppose to go toward my debt and now I'm screwed. How I wish I can turn back the hands of time 5 years ago and stop my self from ever going to the casino. Worst decision of my life and biggest regret of my life. Gamvling has destroyed me emotionally and financially.

You'll never see a gambler coming because they seem happy on the outside, but dying by the minute on the inside. It's a very sick and disgusting addition, you will sell/pawn everything you have just to go back and tap that button. Even if you win, it's not enough..you lie to family and friends, your kids. Lose your home fkn everything and still sometimes the lesson still ain't learned

I had a gambling problem for 15 years. I would basically work for 15 years to feed the habit. I stole around $50 dollars from my brother and felt so bad and he was so good to me when I told him. Other than that one incident. I always paid my rent and travel pass back and forth to worth( As soon as my salary was paid into my account.) I tried to eat ok but went hungry on a few time when it got bad. When I got to 30 years of age, I started to save money and that became my new addiction, seeing how far I could take it. Today I have a house and an apartment at the beach. My kids college is paid for and we live well ( My wife keeps me grounded) It can be done even after 15 years you can turn it around you cannot accept that it cannot end.Its about putting your energy into something else. I hope my story will give hope to someone who is struggling with this terrible problem.

Lost 2 cars in the process, all my savings and any valuables I had have all been sold or pawned. I feel like a complete loser. But you're right, just need to channel this energy into something else.

@@antisocial3232 Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear about your struggle. 30 years of age is a good place to start. Sit down and think, that's the first thing to do because gambling is an impulsive act, we just don't sit and think before we waste more money. Sit and think about your life. What you want from life. I know why I gambled. I came from a very poor family and watched my father work like hell in a job that paid little. He took on that responsibility of raising us the best he could. I thought that I could gamble my way out of poverty. Worst Idea I ever had as it kept me poor for 15 years through my 20s when I was young and strong and could have done anything. Maybe there is something that triggered your gambling and maybe continues to do so. If you are about to lose all your money anyway, why not just spend 6 months just spending it on things you want (You are going to lose it anyway) Find a trip you want to go on somewhere or a hobby. Buy a business and run it as if it was a gamble. It is hard what you are going through, its the worst disease but it a disease that can be controlled. If you want to talk again, please just post I will always answer.

Parents worked hard for my siblings and I, I wanted to give them the world. The crazy thing is that I would actually win some pretty significant jackpots, only to give it all back within weeks. That's when I knew I really had a problem.

As a kid, my Dad would never allow me to play carnival games at the local fair. He said, “They’re set up to beat you.” He was correct. I’ve always regarded gambling in the same way, and stayed away from it. Never realized (til watching the gambler interviews) what wise advice my Dad had given me.

My sponsor still gambled and went to prostitutes for the first 5 years of his sobriety. He described himself as a sober horse thief because he was siphoning money from his payroll withholding to do that. Then he decided he really wanted to get serious about sobriety. Yeah an addict can get addicted to ANYTHING.

There’s a lot of similarities. It struck me when he talked about the normalization from adults to kids. I remember when I was younger, I had friends whose parents would let us party at their house (and buy us alcohol), and other friends whose parents would place bets for us every Sunday. We were 16 years old drinking and gambling regularly! That was just having fun to us and the adults were actively making it happen for us.

Thank you for this video! I felt him 100% I grew up into this family of sports betting and casinos at such a young age, but it was my grown up decision to gamble. Onling gambling, sports betting, casino, slots, everytable game you name it. Lost so much money let my family down, cars repoed , savings gone, drained 401k, debts racked, done some bad things ,I am now almost two months sober from gambling after some eye opening events, had some suicidal thoughts but still here for my kids, i hope i can continue to fight these demons and addiction.Videos like these also been helping me. I suffer from deep depression, anxiety and gambling is my way to cope. To all the gambling addicts out there just like me, im hoping it gets better with time, stop trying to quick flip this and that or gamble every little penny or money you have just to pay this debt off or that person off. It will eventually get worst and worst no matter how many amounts of money we win we will do it again. I own up To my mistakes all the time, I constantly remind myself with positive thoughts that Keep working, I will get out of this life with time, management, help,guidance. If you think you need help seek help, stop thinking be about it. I hope this channel comes out with more stories like these.

I had a gambling problem, but not as bad as yours. One day 3.5 years ago I just decided “No More!” I am happier than ever, have lots of money and am debt free. Once you realize the casinos exist solely to separate you from your money, you’ll look back and see how easy it was to let them manipulate you. Keep on fighting, you have a very bright future ahead! I've known you since undergrad and you remain the dearest of friends. Watching this and reading through the comments brings back a lot of memories and stirs a lot of emotion. There was a long period of time - years - when I didn't recognize you. When all of this came out it explained so much. Then, I witnessed first-hand the fallout and ALL of the collateral damage. I visited you in prison. I've been watching you do the work for years now. I've seen your contrition. I am profoundly proud of you and your recovery. It started with drugs for me and then moved into gambling searching for any way to get higher. Before i knew it I was taking personal loans out from the bank at 9am on casino floor. spent 30 hours straight on the casino floor on countless occasions. Ultimately filed for bankruptcy and i’m clean & sober nearing 10 months. My goals i’ve had for myself for years are within reach or already achieved. So very grateful my life is worth living again.

Started gambling when I was 15, playing poker, blackjack and sports gambling with bookies in high school. Was a very normal thing for me and friends. Now I am 21 and since my 21st birthday I have been degenerate gambling on Draftkings online casino and fanduel. Have lost over 50k since January and have lost almost everything I’ve saved up the last 5 years. Have seen many friends go broke with this sickness and I pray for forgiveness and healing for myself and others struggling with this shit. I made my last bet today. This video really helped me feel better about what I did to myself and understand others have the same problems I do.

I gamble online sometimes and other times at the casino. My wife and I always have spending limits when we go to the casino. The thing that keeps me from getting addicted is the fact that that the odds are stacked against the player. When he mentioned that he felt relief when he gambled his last dollar that really confused me. I always felt bad when my money was gone but I realized it is just entertainment. When I gamble online it is mostly poker and again I don't spend much on it because I hate the feeling of losing. I was always confused by the fact that Americans aren't allowed to put real money on some online poker sites. It just seems like common sense to have a spending limit.

I'm from NJ and moved back when Covid hit because my job ended and I could live for free. The worst decision of my life by far as it led to a gambling addiction due to NJ having online casinos. In a hole financially, stuck at home with nothing to do and the option to win "quick money" was a recipe for disaster. I think a few years from now we are all going to be smacked in the face with just how many people developed addictions with either gambling, drinking or drugs in that year where we all were forced to stay home and had minimal entertainment.

Right now I live in a state where I can do online sportsbook, but for whatever reason, I know my limits when it comes to that. I guess it has something to do with the fast paced nature of the casinos and the ability to win big in a short amount of time. One of my first times playing I turned $200 into 2k in less than a hour. Probably the worst thing that could've happened looking back cause I easily gave back 10 times that much. 2 years later I'm still paying it off. Good luck man.

I'm from England, I watch this channel so much, I'm so close to the edge, struggle with alcohol every damn day, OCD, severe depression, anxiety (I drink to stop the anxiety but it's a killer circle) I'm in debt and the huge increase in energy bills and cost of living in England is making me suicidal. I knew a guy once who would lend money, a loan shark I suppose. I asked him what happens if someone owing money dies, what happens their debt? He said 'if you die, your debt dies with you' 🤷🏻‍♂️ I know this is the other way round in your situation but try not to concentrate on a debt you can't now settle. Just know your dad loved you and try to arrest your gambling, that's what your dad would want more than anything.

Alcoholic here. It’s amazing how we have the same issues at the core just different branches of the tree. I could never imagine giving away that much money. But then a gambling addict might turn around and say to me that I could never imagine drinking myself stupid like that over and over again.

I knew a guy who was addicted to gambling. He was a very successful Real Estate lawyer in Los Angeles, making $1 million dollars a year. He was in Las Vegas on average, three weekends a month. The casino's always gave him suites and even offered to have their airplanes pick him up, but he has a phobia about flying and always drove. His house was worth around $2 million dollars and he kept refinancing to where his mortgage went from $2,000/month to $10,000 per month. Then he started using retainers for gambling, which can get you in big trouble and disbarred. So, we decided to do an intervention and it was a dismal failure. I was so bummed because he was such a great guy in every way except his gambling addiction. I lost touch with him after my girl friend and I broke up. Wish him the best.

My Mom always said she wasn't in putting any substances in her body so she didnt have an addiction! Her gambling addiction was worse than a drug addiction, in my eyes, she had no limits and lost everything

Thank you so much for this. I've been in a relationship with a gambling addict for the past 5 years. I am celebrating 6 years of sobriety from alcohol this year and am at my wits end in my relationship. I've been in such denial about how gambling addiction has affected out relationship. We do not live together, we have no future plans, there is a high level of emotional instability and unavailability. This video has helped me understand the gambling addiction a little better and come to a decision that we should go our separate ways at this point and I wish him all the love in the world. What a sad disease this is and I hope he seeks recovery at some point because there is a solution.

I feel so much for this man. I started to cry as he was recalling the sights he saw at the World Trade Center. Hits home as we come into the first week of September. Wow Dan, you have really talked about issues I can identify with. I've been gambling in the stock market the last 16 years. I have lost about $200K so far. The ups and downs have had a terrible impact on my mood and how I relate to people around me. I can be the happy generous guy when I'm making money and a miserable bastard when I loose. I'm slowly realizing that in my craziness I'm chasing that trade that will make me whole again. That trade will never come and the longer I bet the more money I will lose.
