I have HARD USED the SOG Seal Pup, NW Ranger, Force, Tech Bowie and have not experienced any more chipping or rolling then you get on 1095. It is SOG's cryogenic heat treatment they do that gives it the durability, edge holding, and chip resistance. I have used cold steel AUS-8 and was not as impressed on the SRK.

Been looking forward to this. I'm with you 100%. For me I like bringing a little more blade than I need, keyword a little. For hikes, I think this blade is an awesome choice. Light, sharp, and capable. Comfy handle, but did give me a blister when I tried to chop with it using the flick method-due to the awesome traction. I got it for cheap so I'm super happy with it.

Nice review, I have this knife and agree with everything you've said. I also love the design, the jimping is awesome, great palm swell, love the half hilt design... It's a great knife. I also HATED the sheath... I ended up making a custom Kydex sheath for it. Now I'm really happy with it!

Kewl Beans, I like S.O.G. Cryo Temp. Have the Pup Elite, and the Trident 2.0, maybe this one will find a spot in my stable, you should try batonning with the Ranger, it might suprise you, mine did.

I'm a little confused on the blade thickness. You refer to the thickness as 1/8th but you said it's .16 inches thick. 1/8th of an inch is .125 and I believe 3/16th of an inch is .165. So if I'm right, the NW Ranger is more like 3/16th than 1/8th
