50+ years later.......68-69 spent my entire tour at CCN...many months on nite shift in the TOK,time at FOB, then the one-zero school, some time a Fire Base Honeycutt ( radio relay at USMC hilltop near DMZ), a few missions with RT Maryland........ an interesting year, for sure. Not often talked about- "the Heads and the Lifers" -the late 60's was a time of social change, both in and out of the military . Both groups were brave and dedicated SF troops......but the currents of change were in the air. While I was with the Marines- the era of 'fragging' was in full swing -officiers or NCOs considered over zealous and causing heedless casualities ......had need to worry. The jar heads on honeycutt talked freely to the two 'doggie's ' there. All there patrols were "hot'. I did not envy the infantry work there. Like most 'nam vets , I remember all of it. i do not sparkle on the super secret, super brave, super human, ......I am left with the thought that the SF did their job as best they could. Remarkable............ mb

Thank you guys for creating the SOG cast. The stories and lessons learned in these podcats are priceless and continue to give me deep appreciation for all my good fortune's afforded to me by this great country. None of which would be possible without the great sacrifices of so many of our nations heros. I hope you know how much we appreciate what you guys are doing in your efforts to bring these stories out to the public for so many to appreciate and reflect.

SOG was named in honor of a covert US Special Ops unit that fought in Vietnam. That unit was known as Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG). Its existence once denied by the US Government, it wasn't until long after the war that the SOG story could even be told.
