Soil testing is very important in Gardening or Agriculture as well .Without testing our soil ,we are not able to determine which fertilizer to use at what time or at what quantity.

I bought this ph meter. But I am confused whether it is correct or not. Intially the water ph was around 6. But when I mixed 5gm of baking soda to 1 litre of water, the ph of solution becomes more acidic, ph around 4.5 to 5. But baking soda is alkaline. Then why my ph of solution becomes more acidic in stead of more alkaline. Please answer someone.
