Like it does hurt. They really felt and thought they could do this. And when Sokka was honest and Toph could feel the honesty of this is it she cried. Fear and it hurt all of us. She had only cried a handful of times before and they were all heartbreaking, but this knowing she could not do anything had me in tears. Great writing and having us emotionally invested in the characters.

Over the course of the series Toph always clung to Sokka when outside of her element (Literally) it was the rare moments of vulnerability she's shown, one Sokka never mentions but silently accepts the role. And now when the stakes are at their highest, Toph, blind to her surroundings never hesitated when Sokka takes her hand. She fully trusts him, a respect built over time. Avatar will always have the deepest characters in western animation, no way you can change my mind.

Agreed! Plus there's some character development with Toph too. From the start she hated being protected by others and wanted to stand her own ground. By the end though, she recognizes that like everyone else, in some situations she will need to be protected, even have her hand held. And here she knows that doesn't mean she's lesser than anyone, I mean look at how big of a role she played in taking the ships down! It's just a part of being a piece of a team.

This part of Sozin’s Comet is SO overlooked. They literally had no knowledge or real plan about the airships, yet they took down a whole FLEET by themselves. Sokka took on leadership and protection so well, he really stepped up to the plate. And when he used a boomerang and a sword to defeat those two fire benders with ONE HAND, that’s just beyond incredible. Toph was literally at her bravest point. She had to trust that Sokka would be her eyes and direct her on where to go. And how she redirected a whole airship from the outside and showed no fear was amazing. Now it may seem like Suki didn’t so much, but she did. First off, props to her for knowing how to steer, second, she probably took down EVERY crew member possible so she could take the wheel and save Toph and Sokka. I wish we could’ve seen what she did but either way she’s ELITE

Honestly, Aang's fight with the Firelord and Zuko and Katara taking down Azula get a lot of hype, but Sokka, Toph, And Suki had the hardest task that day, aside from the White Lotus reclaiming Ba Sing Se. I mean they took down an ENTIRE airship fleet. Here's them hopping from one destroyed ship to the next, not caring about the dangers, just doing everything possible to prevent the dogs from burning down the earth kingdom. Amazing

The masters of the white lotus were reconquering a massive city full of 100x enhanced firebenders, we didn't see the whole battle but it certainly occupied them. In the end, the world was in the hands of the 14-year-old avatar and his gaang.

This scene has clearly pointed out sokkas leadership and critical thinking skills in emergency situations. He knew aangs fight was with the fire lord and they had to take out the airships. He knew how to operate the ships and quickly came up with a plan to throw the airship off course while destroying them. He knew to get up on the roof and when he and toph were surrounded he calculated the the toss of his boomerang and managed to kick up his sword landing perfectly in his hand with a BROKEN LEG. This is why sokka will always be my favorite character.
