What fascinates me about these type of stories is how there are clearly unwritten laws that's mutually accepted (in football and in life too), and yet at the same time there's absolutely nothing that can stop someone "crossing that line" if they so pleased. Sol Campbell was a boyhood Tottenham fan, he went on to not only play for his club, but also captain it. He was a physical embodiment of the dream scenario for any football fan growing up wanting to be a professional footballer... He KNEW that leaving Tottenham for Arsenal was going to put him up there amongst the likes of Judas Iscariot and Luis Figo, but he still went ahead and did it anyway. You can put a price on someone's talent and name, but you can't put a price on their character. Signing the dotted line for Arsenal sealed his fate amongst Spurs fans forever more, and that's just the way it is.

Can't blame him. Kane did the opposite and look where that's taken him, running around Germany for trophies. Spurs were naive and should have given him an ultimatum with 2yrs left like most clubs do now and either get him to sign or put him up for sale. With 0-1yr left Campbell had all the power and could call the shots. The fact that its Arsenal he went to is really immaterial when it comes to professional football. Campbell wasn't a fan playing for free, he had a certain amount of time to maximise his potential in a situation that matched his preferred lifestyle. History proved him right.

Nonsense, he could have gone to any of the top teams, because they all wanted him, all around Europe as well, and won much more! And he wouldn't have had to endure the abuse that he rightly deserves and still gets to this day. One thing though, he has outdone all the Spurs greats in one respect, to this day he still has a song sung especially for him by the Tottenham fans. And I'm sure he's proud of that! 😂🤣😂

He could have gone to any of the top clubs in the whole of Europe, won European titles as well and suffered no hard feelings from the Spurs fans. Switch the roles for instance, say, Arsenal are doing poorly and Spurs are winning, what's it going to take for Adams to leave and go join Tottenham? Never happen! Because he, like most footballers, have some kind of integrity and loyalty to the club and fans. Remember, we're talking club captains here, but even Petite years after he left Arsenal couldn't join Tottenham, because he saw it as betrayal to the fans if he did. 'Nuff said!'😎

@ I wouldn’t blame Adams if he went to Spurs and he actually won stuff if he wasn’t winning at Arsenal. Sol Campbell won trophies at the end of the day. The abuse was always gonna happen and maybe Sol was naive to think that people would forget. But Sol Campbell probably wouldn’t trade not having abuse for everything he achieved at Arsenal which is why at the end of the day he made the right decision. @@menubuje My whole point is, and sorry for laboring the point, but the only place Campy could have gone to get the kind of abuse he has was Arsenal, Spurs' main and most hated rivals. Believe me, perhaps not from you as you are more tolerant, but Adams would have received the same hatred and abuse from the Arsenal fans, had he have acted as disloyally as Campy did! Like you said, he must be really dim to be shocked by the reaction! In addition, the way the whole affair was kept a secret so that his jumping ship and going to Arsenal could retain the shock and surprise factor when the new signing was revealed did exactly help either. 😂😂Just more fuel on the fire!

Gooner here. I have no ill feelings toward Van Persie and others who have left Arsenal to seek trophies that we couldn't provide. Spurs fans on the surface want commitment to the club even when they're not challenging. Sometimes clubs and fans think they own players for the rest of their life. If a player doesn't play well, he will not be signed for the next season... Also, as a player if a company comes that pays more for your service, you sign them - it is about business. Why would a player be a loyal to a club, when he will be replaced if the club finds a better player... likewise the players should also be able to replace a club, if they find a club they want.
