Regarded as a founder of Conceptual Art, Sol Lewitt devised guidelines and diagrams that allowed for artworks, such as his wall drawings, to be executed by his assistants. This has led rise to the myth that the artist didn't do work himself, when in fact he worked prolifically - in one summer alone painting more than 260 gouaches and often working seven days a week.
Here we learn not just how Lewitt worked, but about the kind of man he was, as remembered by his former assistant Jeremy Ziemman and the curator of the Sol Lewitt Collection, Janet Passehl.

So artists art work are really not what we think it is some instances . You here critics and and such tout the "Nuance's" of a artists work when in fact the line the brush stroke the sculpted form may only be in part or in some cases not that artist hand at all but just the artists concept or idea. I believe in my opinion that this degrades that artist work unless it is clearly stated who worked on it how long what they did Etc........... and are compensated accordingly. Its known that this sort of art has bin around for a log time yet rarely spoken of. Glad this artist has made it known to some degree.

The problem people have is not regarding whether he worked, but whether he created the finished pieces themselves- not gouaches, but sculptures etc.
