That paring with the IR does sound brutal. I used the Coffee Audio IR's and they paired brutally as well with low tuning. And you didn't smash that hard post either, just enough to shape the characteristics you were after. Great work. PS: I had trouble too getting the camera to focus on this pedal... For a non-gloss finish, it loves reflecting light haha.

Yeah man. The pedal is so reflective. Very hard to get some nice closeups of it. I'll check out the Coffee Audio IRs. Don't they have IRs from the Jinjer guitarist?

@@GaryHiebner yes, roman ir pack. It's the main ir pack i use now. With the Roman coffee audio just like Nick Leonard ir packs, you get a few eq'ed ir's and a bunch of raw ones with all different mics and positions. I have trouble moving away from the classic e906 and sm57 blends haha. I did a video pairing solar chug with the Roman pack if you are keen to hear how they s sound.

😂 Ola says it chugs, but I like that you ask does it chug anyway. I would have liked a pedal like this back in the day, but I've finally dialed in my own tone with boost, compression, eq pedals, and a Marshall Jackhammer, and I'm finally satisfied after many many years.

@@GaryHiebner Even the Jack wasn't great on its own ( to my ears ), until the other 3 woke it up. Although had I decided to do dedicated bass and guitar amps, I could've at least cut out the eq pedal, but since I play 8 anyway and tune down to double drop D, I was being frugal and using a bice little Hartke 12 bass amp for both bass and guitar 😂🤷‍♂️ So I run my guitar through the signal chain, and run my bass direct, and I don't touch any amp settings.

Sounds good, but my one issue with it is the same as with most high gain preamp pedals: WHY DOESN'T IT HAVE TWO CHANNELS?! It could be an awesome pedalboard amp, but instead it's an expensive 'on or off' distortion pedal that you're either going to have running full bore all the time or have the gain turned right down and hit with an overdrive pedal for more gain. Baffles me, to be honest. It needs two channels/an integrated boost to have the versatility it really needs to work as a true preamp.

Yeah true. Would be awesome if there were two channels. The Empress is really good hi gain preamp pedal with two channels

@@GaryHiebner don't get me wrong, it sounds awesome, but I've been looking for a a two channel tight gain preamp to dual-rig with my other amp without the need for two complete rigs, and the paucity of options that don't cost as much as a complete 2nd amp is starting to do my head in... 😄

@@GaryHiebner Empress heavy sounds awesome, like really, really awesome, but there's too much gain on the lower gain channel for genuine low-gain drive, sadly. It does sound really cool though

The guitar is tuned to a Drop Octave F# Tuning. So its like B Std. But then the low B string is dropped down to F#
