This solar water lens that is almost 30 inches in diameter is grid free energy and can burn through wood quickly. It delivers a very large powerful focal point that is only useful around noon in the summertime when the sun is directly overhead. The material is crystal clear vinyl shower curtain. This lens concentrates about 500 watts of solar heat energy to a focal point of 1 inch optimal with a 3-6 inch scatter.

Problem with this concept is sustainability. You have to continually fill plastic with water due to evaporation. Couldn't walk away for 4 hours. Because focal point would need to be recalobrated due to the evaporation.

Fantastic, this could be set up in any place with a lot of sun, tropical or desert. The focus could be aimed at the collector of a Sterling engine which would run all day with that kind of heat, charge batteries, run a/c, pump water for irrigation, you name it.

Yeah have you thought about making a replicator complex with a 3D printer and a robot hand made out of fibreglass made from local sand and put it in a remote location like a desert. To reduce amount of energy needed just make a very thin layer of glass and have water make a lens which would require the replicators to build a canal or to be near a water source. On top of mountains or very cold areas you could make ice lens replicators that reconfigure ice into more lenses and movers and stuff, I imagine an ice replicator replicating very quickly think quadrillions of them in a week if they take one hour to replicate (1 replication doubles their number so 10 replications is 1000 (1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1000), 50 replications = 1000^5 = 1 quadrillion.

That was awesome dude, when I was a little boy my dad showed me that on a camping trip, the SAG in the plastic dictates the thickness of your lens so you have to watch that's not too thin or too thick. When the water reaches of depth of about inch and 3/4 to 2 and 1/2 in is where you create your best lens effect

I just cracked the Inca stone puzzle They used concentrated light beams through a gas lens To melt stone to jellification.. Once jellified the were squeezed in place which gave them The maximum closeness you could ever get with a stone block, the remaining heat caused the stone to stick to adjacent stone like mortar.. Once place the front of stone bellied out due to pressure from tightly compressed placement of stone, once stone cooled a gap should have formed but remember the front bellied part was a reservoir, so when bellied part contracted it pushed back the gaps in sides and glued them together..... PLEASE TRY THIS MATE , MAYBE TRY FREZ WATER LENS TO... IM FILTERED AND IGNORED EVERYWHERE TO STOP ME

Lenses can also be made by putting a reflecting material in a round pan and rotating it. At different speeds the liquid takes on different shapes, sphere/parabola/etc. Pans filled with mercury have been made into telescope mirrors this way. Perhaps water with a floating reflecting surface of some material could work as well since mercury is expensive and toxic. Light could be directed to the pan via mirrors that reflect the sun to it, any kind of flat mirror-like surface would do. Focused light could then be reflected perpendicular with a small mirror of any quality like in a Newtonian telescope to heat a boiler tank which could drive anything from a refrigerator to a saw mill to an air conditioner. All you need is sun and water, even sea water or very dirty water or even ice or snow!. Desalinate water this way to irrigate fields for food and to forest to Earth and thus naturally reduce CO2 in the air!

Wow. I've never seen a focal point that long, except in a reflector telescope. But how about a large Fresnel lens? A jointed frame containing two mirrors at 45 degrees can be made to track the sun and always point the light downward. 1st part of mirror frame rotates on horizontal axis; 2nd frame (joined to the 1st) rotates on vertical axis. Think of the equatorial mount of a telescope. Such a setup of mirrors eliminates the need to move the lens. I built a manual tracker twenty years ago. It works good.

This is insane. Water being the perfect substitute for glass/plastic, amazing because you can just fill some translucent plastic bag with water and drape it and if you find the right focal length you can get it down to the point (very high heat/light density) *Note:* the bigger the plastic bag/magnifying glass, the more heat you'll get total (you're collecting the sun's light/heat to a point)

This is really clever idea, and I like it. What about spring to fall period (maybe even mild winter with not much snow and some sunlight)? Is it possible to use ordinary mirror and redirect sun, and possible make sun tracking system? Such mirror will be tilted at proper angle (and fixed above this lens), depending of time of the day, and season. This is so great idea. I wonder whether... Is it possible to make even bigger lens with stronger material which may hold more water? And whole construction may be placed closer to the ground, thus avoid problems with sudden wind and bad weather when this 'device' is not in use. Definitively I will try this next summer. Thank you very much for sharing this idea with us. Cheers!

There was a company that was making glass lens to power solar panel but i guess it was too expensive. There is also a limit of how much heat can a solar take. This is perfect in survival situations all you need to large enough plastic with you and you can start a fire or boil water.
@erikmarkus7467
@erikmarkus7467 6 жыл бұрын
actually, you would need a lot more than plastic. you would also need a frame to which you would fasten the plastic (not so easy in a survival situation), the means of fastening the plastic - nails, hammer, something else, and a means of holding the whole contraption perfectly horizontal in order to catch enough water to get the lens (his wooden scaffolding type construction). and IF you have all this then you need a bright sunny day. if you ask me, its anything BUT perfect in a survival situation.

How is it’s 1/3 kilowatt energy , how did you measure it ?
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE 6 жыл бұрын
1 square meter of sunlight is 1000 watts or one kilowatt of solar thermal energy. This is not electrical and based on joules. The area is 1/3 that of a square meter, actually 1/2 but this is not 100% efficient so 1/3 is closer to reality. The focal point would heat something equal to 333 watts of energy. The energy to heating is dependent on the end project and efficiency of items add to the project so area is the best method for determining power potential. Fine particulates in the sky, relative humidity and other factors reduce the 1000 watts per square meter by 5%-10%. 1/3 is a safe estimate based upon all those factors.

If you have a big oven that'll go 230f or can make one, you can slowly bend some polycarbonate sheets. That material is great for a strong workpiece at 1/4", you just have to dry it out first or it'll bubble. Since we're not making a telescope, using support members on the face of this would be okay. Use 2 polycarbonate sheets, frame with some aluminum plate, attach water hose connector or just a water plug after sealing 2 poly halves w/silicon and that's your lens w/rise column for expansion.

Considering ancient Greeks may have had a very a large glass bowl to fill with water instead of plastic, a really big mirror of excellent quality, and fine tuning lenses, this guy may have just solved the mystery of the "heat ray" used against invading war ships of popular legend.

This had the potential of being a great video, so why the utterly annoying camera crap at the end? I was going to sub, but the flashing changed my mind.
