The 2020 Solar E Type looks suspiciously like my Chapman Ghost Fret from 2016. Let's take a closer look at both. (This is extreme sarcasm in case you missed it.)
Click an affiliate link, support the show:

Chapman Ghost Fret: www.thomann.de...
Disclosure: I bought the Ghost Fret in 2016.... I borrowed the E-Type. Nobody is paying me anything to make this video.
About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.
Thanks for checking out my channel & please subscribe!

Nice video!! Hey Glenn - hope all is good with you. Just in case anyone reads anything in to this video that isn’t the case, Rob, Ola & I are great friends!! We’re super impressed at what Ola is doing & we also believe Chapman are currently making the best range of guitars it’s ever made!! (BTW all the Chapman Pro range since the beginning of 2020 come with USA Seymour Duncan pups!). Cheers for the feedback on the Ghostfret - we’re making changes to that guitar right now & I hope we can show you something new later in 2021. Happy Christmas to you - peace!!

Hi Glen , I am in need of some serious feedback! So about 10 years ago I bought a program by Cakewalk and Roland called the V-Studio 20 ; which is a DAW/Interface combo with built in BOSS effects that works exclusively for windows 7 . My question is this , I have been recording comfortably on this program and interface for many years now while enhancing my skills / knowledge revolving around audio engineering , but I feel like I am too comfortable . When I upgrade from windows 7 and get a new interface/Daw will the transition be painful? I would hate to have put all of these years of effort into learning about about audio production just to feel like I am starting from scratch again . Would it be worth it in the long run to upgrade my setup or will I still be okay to use my "OUT OF DATE" recording software? Thanks in advance Glenn and cheers from Ingersoll 2 hrs east on the 401!

I wonder if the weight thing is dependent on the individual guitar as well, and not specifically a model feature? Does the Chapman have sidemarkings at least on the fretboard? I believe many who opt out of regular inlays do it because they find they don't need more than the sidedots. Personally I think the fretboard in Chapman looks nicer visually than the Solar inlays. But after all that's just a question of taste, not quite argument of function. I recall Rob using mostly classical position, just like with V's when he plays ghost fret. I always thought guitars shaped like explorer are most fit for standing up with a strap.

I suspect that you get more sequels in the Solar in good part due to the EMGs. The tone profile and pre-amp help with harmonics, but then there’s also a narrow range and sterile sound compared to passives.

Also, for the slipping issue while seated, maybe try those rubberized mats that we all used to have in our kitchen cupboards?

I personally use a guitar strap which is set just to hold the guitar slightly up when I sit down to prevent my guitars from sliding. The guitar can move, but does not tilt and slide of my leg. It also comes very handy when doing some adjustments on the computer keyboard or using the mouse while recording myself. It interrupts the work flow a lot less than putting the guitar back in its stand every time I have to use my hands to operate the DAW. If you don't like to use a strap for some reason, have you considered using an anti-slip car dash sticky pads made of silicon. Just place the pad on your leg and rest the guitar upon it. Since I've never tried it, I have no idea whether it works or not and how well the pad will stick to your trousers but it might be worth trying :-)

Glenn! Just put a strip of rubber over your leg, with the guitar on top. Or use contact cement (like they use for applying tolex to amps) and stick the rubber onto the guitar. You apply a couple of thin layers, let it dry til just slightly tacky, then place it and apply even pressure. Job done.

I'm a little confused: are you actually saying Solar is ripping off Chapman or just 'highlighting' their similarities?? Because while they are definitely marketed towards the same demographic, I think it's fair to say Solar isn't ripping off Chapman. With different aesthetics, different bridges, and different pickups, that hardly screams "rip off". They're just two different but *similar* Gibson scale-length Explorerer shaped guitars.
