This video goes into detail of wiring a Reliant Pro/Tran transfer switch.
Step by step how-to tutorial makes it easy to understand.
Now you can use a solar inverter to run your existing household circuits, without extension cords.

Congrats, great explanation! No any question :) You pass :). I will share video to friends from US. In EU\Poland we say a "grid - generator switch" for a "grid - off - generator switch" a transfer switch like you say :). BR and take care !.

Great video as always, if you don't want to use an ATS, Can you make a video on how to connect AC input from grid to Inverter, i get confused a lot on how to do that.

I'm installing a ground mount system (grid-Tie), and running to my shop which has a 200amp service and it's own meter. I was going to run a 50 amp line to the house and install a Gen transfer switch so I can select what curcuits to run thru the shop (grid-tie) meter. After watching your videos, I would have to run my nutrual and ground from the shop service thru the Transfer switch to my home service. With the rule of only one bonded nutrual this would not be possible. Any suggestions?

I'm assuming the house has its own meter and its own neutral-ground bond. You might be able to use a transfer switch that switches hot and neutral. Most of these are pretty expensive (over $1000). There's one called EZ Generator Switch that might work for you: amzn.to/4bwEJWl The only problem is they are made for only one 120v circuit, so you would have to use several' Another possibility is to add new "solar only" outlets. These would be fed entirely from your solar system hot, n, and g, and would not share any wiring with the existing outlets. I saw a guy do that once. It works, but you have to manually unplug appliances from the existing outlets and plug them in to the new solar outlets.

@@ReelClearMediaLLC I'm glad I ran across your videos! It was put in a way even I could understand. What are your thoughts on this idea? From my ground mount to the shop is 120', hang the combiner on the shop and continue the run to the house 120', tie into the house load center. it will be a 30-35amp circuit, can I then add a 30amp 240v plug after the combiner at the shop?
@ReelClearMediaLLC
@ReelClearMediaLLC 2 ай бұрын
@@qx3091 I'm not sure I follow, correct me if I am mistaken. You would go from the combiner box to the house and the shop? I don't think multiple MPPT chargers on one combined output would work. It might be be better to split your panels into two separate arrays, one for the house and one for the shop. Each with its own charger/inverter.

@@ReelClearMediaLLC My thought was tapping the 240v line between the combiner and load panel. In this case, running a split AC unit (18.2 amps) from the tap. I would be using the PV to power the AC unit, and the 30 amp PV breaker from the home load panel would run the AC when the PV is not producing.

@@qx3091 I have no experience splitting a solar DC combiner... seems like it would be ok, but not sure.

Thank you for this video but sir I am facing a problem with my inverter because the grid in my area is not always available so when the sun goes down I need to increase the charging power of my inverter from 20A to 60 or 80A but when I did an error pops up “the parameter type null” and it returns to 20A automatically How can I deal with it because I need to charge on grid rapidly Thank you again

Thanks for the video. So, having a transformer to generate L2 is not needed? Or maybe only needed for a critical loads panel when not using a transfer switch.
@ReelClearMediaLLC
@ReelClearMediaLLC 3 ай бұрын
The only time I've seen people use a transformer was running a 230v European inverter such as a Growatt SPF 5000-ES. That inverter only outputs 230v with no neutral. The transformer is used to give you two hots (L1 andL2) and a neutral. I'm using a Growatt SPF3000TL-LVM. Its a single phase 120v inverter that has L1, neutral and ground. I'm only running 120v circuits, There are no 240v circuits. The individual circuits don't care if they are L1 or L2. Its important that the total of the transfer switch circuits isn't more than your inverter can handle. You can run a critical loads panel off-grid with only L1, as long as you don't have any 240v circuits. You must still do proper grounding and bonding.

When circuit A is sourced by the grid and circuit B is sourced by solar, is there any problem? The grid and solar share the same neutral. Will it backfeed to the grid or solar?
@ReelClearMediaLLC
@ReelClearMediaLLC 3 ай бұрын
In North America, the neutral and ground are bonded at the main panel, so neutral is referenced to ground. The transfer switch keeps the hot (L1 and/or L2) from the solar isolated from the hot lines of the grid, and can't back-feed the solar into the grid. Think of it another way... in your house, all of your neutrals are always connected to the neutral bus bar, even if the switch on that circuit is off, and current doesn't move until the switch is on. There can be a problem if the inverter's ground and neutral are bonded. Then, you have two bonds and current can flow on your ground wire. see my grounding and bonding videos.

OK! after two days of trying to get my PowMr inverter to work with no avail I finally found your video. I hope I can ask you a couple of questions. I can't get my transfer switch to work. The red and black to the main panel are good. I'm using a single phase 120 on all breakers. My 24v 3000 w inverter has three terminal ac IN but only two terminals on ac OUT, no ground third wire. I wired the ac in to an extension cord for battery charging. I connected the ac out two wires to the transfer switch red and black wires. it does not work. I don't know how to ground all these wires and maybe that's the problem. I don't get it itwatching the video, i'm not too savy.

I'm not familiar with the PowMr inverter. The two wires out are probably L1 and Neutral...Its vitally important to identify which is which. What transfer switch are you using?

I figured it out. It was a dumb mistake. I opened up the panel again and found I had put the neutral into the ground bar. It’s working now on battery. Still no solar input showing though

@@dons5105 I put the neutral in the neutral bar. The inverter is now working properly. The reason I have no solar is because my unit needs an MPPT range of 120-400v and my panel only puts out 36v. So I’m learning as I go. Thanks for your help.
