Connecting batteries in parallel increases Ah. Connecting in series increases volts. But here's the cool thing, both increase capacity. for example, a 12V 100Ah battery has 1200Wh (12V x 100Ah = 1200Wh). Two wired in series = 24V x 100Ah = 2400Wh total. Two wired in parallel = 12V x 200Ah = 2400Wh. Same Wh capacity, just different volts and amp hours.

how can I measure the amount of discharge of a given battery bank of say 24 volt, is it just the voltage drop or do I have to monitor power usage?

Battery BANK??? You need to do a separate course for small, vehicle-mounted systems, One panel, one battery, no inverter, one controller. Fuck battery banks.
