Thanks for this video awesome and and a great space saver for weekends to keep the essentials going. I see they have a 90watt now and I have been running a 110 watt on roof for 2 years with no problems so will be changing. A bit more costly but less weight and more space following you.

that's a clean solar power hookup! first time seeing this one for me. Great install! being able to install it on the hood really is convenient and out of the way, and it looks rugged. I guess the plastic underlay was an insulator? Looks like some really smart tech!

Nice video! I am curious as to how well the system performs when the engine gets hot. These systems were performance tested at 77F. Also interested in a follow-up about how (if at all) the longevity is affected with the hood mounted system.

Thanks 4 the info. Can you please explain how to actually use the solar panel, such as how do you use the power that it gathers? Thanks
@MoreDirtMoreDistance3 жыл бұрын
Hey. The solar panel sends power to the truck battery. The solar charge controller manages how much power is sent to the battery. You power your equipment using the truck battery. For example I installed a 12v outlet in the truck bed. I bought a 500W inverter so I can power 12v, 110, and USB items from the bed.

@caseydman46513 жыл бұрын
my only issue with these is that the cut outs for the hood bumps allows things to get underneath the panel, water pools up underneath it then freezes, dirt just collects, ROCKS?! i cannot imagine pulling that thing off to see a handful of tiny sharp rocks chewing away at the vinyl/paint....engine temp vinyl is basically liquid so anything sharp would cut right through let us know how it holds up!
@MoreDirtMoreDistance3 жыл бұрын
Interesting I’ll keep an eye out for that issue. Thanks!

Great video and install. My query is when driving at high speeds will the panel lift off the hood after it is weathered enough or will the wind rip it off. Thanks
@MoreDirtMoreDistance3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No that shouldn’t be a problem it is that super strong adhesive. Just make sure to use the adhesive prep and do the full 10 minutes of pressure.

does the 3m adhesive tho hurt your hood? It looked like the edge of the solar panel extended farther than the base vinyl layer. Also how does the soap and water not ruin the car finish?
@MoreDirtMoreDistance2 жыл бұрын
Once you install the panel I imagine it would be hard to remove. If your concerned about that I would suggest talking to the manufacturer.

I plan on doing several camping trips this summer, so i’ll find out what it can do.
@markwyatt30883 жыл бұрын
Really? A cheap Chinese 80w panel may at best provide 3.5 amps of charging in noonday sun but are you going to commonly park in the sun when camping? I think not. If you're driving that solar panel means nothing compared to your alternator output. If you're serious get a military grade foldable panel, 5x4' or bigger 100w with max 7.6 amp output ($800) and lay it in the sun with cables to an isolated aux battery so your Jeep and 'fridge are shaded but the panel is getting full sun all day when you're camped. That will work. But hooking up such a lame panel to you car battery and expecting it to keep your 'fridge running after a cloudy day is asking for a dead battery the next day. Let us know how your setup works.
@MoreDirtMoreDistance3 жыл бұрын
I’m going to do a full end of summer review, but the short version is that I’ve used it for camping over long weeks to run the fridge, diesel heater at night, and charge small electronics. The battery has started every morning. The panel is good for light work, but It isn’t enough for a serious overlander.
