At my grandmums place lived tons of barn swallows when I was a child. They loved the northern side of her house never made nests on the other sides. She did not want to drive them away because she said they bring joy and blessing to the house. Now that nowone is living there the barn swallows have moved away too.

You have such a neat property! I really enjoy seeing your trails and ponds and trees. I'm glad you're not relocating the female squirrels, but I'd like to tell you what happened recently in my neck of the woods: We have several different scurries or tribes of squirrels in our neighborhood, and several of us put out peanuts for them. The strongest scurry was in a grove of walnut trees. They kept order amongst all the tribes and there was a peaceful 'flow' of activity between the groups. One day a guy went out to the walnut trees and shot all but two of those main squirrels. It's been chaos amongst the rest of the squirrels since. Vicious fights started as soon as the other squirrels discovered that there were only two squirrels left in the ruling scurry and the other tribes began to vie for power. Other squirrels will try to kill the strangers, so when you relocate a squirrel, you're putting them in real danger, especially if they're alone in the territory of a strange scurry. I know you have to protect your house.

Glad you're getting rain. We haven't had any since the end of April and there's none in the forecast for the next ten days. A thing that helps with ticks---if you wrap duct tape around your ankles with the sticky side out before you go walking, it will catch most of them. I used to do this when I lived back East. It really helps. :-)

One thing I learned stacking wood growing up. Stack it in single rows and leave space between them so air can flow around them and they can cure properly. They cure better. We always used hardwood though. Not sure if it matters for evergreen.

If you can source free or cheap washed concrete slabs, you could solve two issues around your garden: No more plants growing and animals cant dig under the fence and it wont require any maintenance The more labor intensive (but free) alternative would be to dig a shallow trench all around the fence and fill it with decently sized gravel. Will keep most plants from growing and also impede diggers to a degree.

If you had a outside wood stove you can have it also your water heater my son lived north in Mich. In Travers City area. It was cheaper to buy wood cut and split but sometimes we would cut firewood in state lands. Just cut up the downed trees. Only have to fill it in am afternoon and before bed. It was a clean heat and would work with your thermostat.

Don't forget that if you put those stones in the big pond deep in the water the compressor needs to pump much harder thereby reducing the volume of air pumped. Putting the stones on less deep water will increase the airflow.

Just on the wood fire, I’m 68 now and I’ve had a wood fire for 50 years, but today I only split our wood. Up until about 10 years ago id cut, transport and split all our wood, best heat you can get. 100% hardwood. Cheers, keep up the good work.

With the tubes being split the air is going to flow the path with the least amount of resistance since the tube to the left is shorter the air is going to want to flow over there with the shorter hose because it's the path with least amount of resistance the longer the hose the more resistance it the same with water and electric lines. An example is if you have two bathrooms in a house and you turn the hot water in the bathroom closest to you hot water heater that bathroom will get hot water first followed by the second bathroom.

If you have spare landscaping fabric maybe you could lay strips down and cover them in gravel/stones to discourage weeds under the electric fence. I find boiling water kills grass too. My neighbour spilled some and it left a dead patch for a few months.

Some of the "burping" on the larger solar pump could be because you have the stones so deep - unit has to struggle to overcome the water pressure at that depth. Especially with the pressure distributed across the multiple stones.

I know using talcum powder around the edge of a garden keeps bunnies away. Has to be replaced when it rains. Also, planting marigolds around the edge deters some animals. They don't like the smell of the flowers. I have tried both and they work, to my surprise. Just an idea, if you want to try. 😊😉 Non of this is harmful to animals or environment.

I am pretty sure the air stone doesn't remove ammonia (about 95% sure). Yes it provides oxygen, but don't be complacent and believe it removes ammonia (at least it won't remove it in beneficial quantities...you will still need to do water changes). Also; get some check valves for the air pumps so that water don't back up.
@post10Vlogs
@post10Vlogs Жыл бұрын
aeration systems are designed to allow microbial reactions to convert ammonia to nitrate or nitrite (which can subsequently be converted to dinitrogen gas (N2) and be released harmlessly). Something like that is what my goal was, that above is from Google

I agree the temperature is abnormal. But that's also defining "normal" by averages. Averages only mean so much too. The longer you live, if you can remember more than about the past 2 weeks, you will see that "abnormal" is only fitting for a very short term. Is it not just as abnormal your temps are in the 50s, which is just more palatable (for you especially, and probably NOT your average person). It's been hot here the last week, based on averages too. As Ernie said in the 1984 Ghostbusters, "I've seen **** that'll turn you white!", and I think with some more life experience, and again having a memory span greater than the past 2 weeks (which seems to be about most Americans), hopefully by "abnomral" you'll only understand it more as "different than I'm used to" and not necessarily the Earth is about to die.

Curious that it would still be considered "Green" by the government. First there's the cutting down of the tree. The fuel and energy required for cutting and splitting and transporting. The burning and releasing of the carbon. I'm all for it, but it won't be long before the govt will no longer consider it green
@post10Vlogs
@post10Vlogs Жыл бұрын
Maine New Hampshire and Vermont are considered green energy states because they are fueled by the Upper 90 percentile wood burning power plants but I don't consider it green personally cutting down all that Forest to supply them and the trees that will grow in their place will not take in the same amount of carbon from them being burned
