I love my Wyze cams! I have the doorbell on my front door, a Cam V3 with spotlight on my cabin, and the motion light on my shed. I had to wire it all up myself but I've done a lot of electrical work so it was nothing, gave me something to do. I'm really happy with them, especially being I got all 3 of them for less than I would have paid for the Google Nest motion light alone. Even with the year of Cam Plus for each of them!

Just a helpful tip. It would be better to put the Wyze cam just a little further into the middle to reduce the IR bounce from the wall on the left. You may be able to see your driveway then.

Great video! I saw a SimpliSafe camera in your intro -- Only thing I would suggest is don't use signs that specifically say SimpliSafe on your property. Nothing wrong with SimpliSafe in general, It works just fine for most things and I own a system myself... but it's very easy to bypass if you know what you're up against. I won't go into detail here, but it is. If you have SimpliSafe, get some other signs that don't specify what brand you have.

This was so helpful! I watched many reviews for this particular camera and just like I many people also had questions about using solar to power this. People however were assuming that because there is no battery to hold the charge, that it wont work with solar power. Your system works fine, so I see no reason it wouldn't work with like a smaller solar power bank. I should share your link in so of those comments. I'm defiantly going to try with the smaller more portable solar power banks.

Great to hear. Yes, so far, this is working great for my application. You could definitely get away with a smaller system, but having a slightly larger system allows room for days where it may be cloudy or not as much direct sunlight during certain parts of the year. Good luck on your project!

These cameras also have night vision but the IR lights in them are relatively weak only able to illuminate a very small field with weak IR. I supplement my outdoor scene with another IR source light that really brightens the field. Unfortunately, all the IR lights I've found online are all powered by A/C.

Anyway to do this but with a small 12x12 solar panel but there is no storage for the power? I dont have a solar power setup like yours. I dont have anything. I just want to take my security camera that takes dc power and hook it up to a solar panel away from the house.

That may be difficult to do without some type of battery (big/small) since the power from the sun will vary throughout the day and from day to day. There are some security cameras out there that have internal batteries built in which makes the process easier. Some even sell a small solar panel you can mount near by and plug it directly into the security camera so it's a plug-n-play application. I haven't used any myself yet since I haven't had a need to, but if you search "Battery Powered Security Cameras" on Amazon/Google, you might land on a few options.

Not that particular one. You can with the Wyze Outdoor that has a battery built into the camera. The camera I have uses too much power and would stop working when the sun goes down since it does not have a battery built in.

Great video, but you should have shown more of the Wyze camera setup (not because it is needed, but to stretch the video out to hit the 10 minute mark that helps the algorithm). I think it'd be cool if you did a follow on video that did a standalone Wyze camera installation a small solar panel that charged a battery or USB power bank that ran a Wyze camera. Hey Ron. No, they do not force you to pay a monthly fee to use their basic monitoring service, but they do have a Cam Plus plan you can upgrade to that gives you a few more features which does require a monthly fee. I only use the free services and it meets my needs just fine, but it will vary from person to person and what your needs are.
