Great video! Any chance that you've done a video with the set up of a Vivosun RDWC 5 bucket system where on of the buckets is used as a reservoir? Thanks

Glad to see you get on the LiFePo4 train -- a great battery chemistry and Will Prowse makes some great videos. I had to google the pronunciation of the battery mfg, but apparently it is pronounced a few different ways lol. Glad to see you still making videos!

I'm really glad you DID make this video! First, lemme say, great video, attention to the right things, and... Best music ever! 🤪 Ok, so I've been thinking i wanted to buy a used robot mower, and build my own control electronics. But, i wanted to know which cutting method was the best, since our yard, while small, does have lots of shade trees. Of course they drop lots of leaves, pine straw snd twigs, especially in the autumn and during/after a storm. I do wish you'd talked about that more. But i like the wheel design. And THIS is the kind of test i really wanted to see. I keep running across robot mowers where you have to start with a "freshly mowed" lawn! WTF???! 😮 I was VERY impressed by how it handled the tall, thick grass: the way it backed up & ran into it head-on! Very impressive! Was that all automatic, or were you driving it remotely? I'd also like to know a few other things. I have 'scribed, but this was the first video of yours I've seen, so i don't know if you talked about that in other videos. What's the brand, and cost? Does it have a dedicated "installed" battery? GPS/GNSS? Does it need a perimeter wire? So many questions! I sure hope you can answer some of them, st least! Again, great video, and great test! Just what i needed to see! 'scribed! 👍👍👍. 🤪

Great editing!! You can not go wrong with a Victron controller. Did I see a grounding wire on your aluminum panel mount?
@GreenTechTownАй бұрын
Thanks. Yes, there is a ground copper wire attached to my solar panel's frame.
@Kevin_D1Ай бұрын
@GreenTechTown If that frame is aluminum, then it will make for a poor ground. Trust me, I found out the hard way.
@GreenTechTownАй бұрын
Interesting. Yeah, I have mine connected with a grounding lug (similar to this one: amzn.to/40t7SQs) which is attached to the panel's frame. Seems many have supported doing it this way, but I'm always curious to learn new ways. What solution do you use now?
@Kevin_D1Ай бұрын
@GreenTechTown In my opinion, you would need a grounding rod driven into the ground. Then, have a wire connected to your mount. After that, you can groundi other stuff to the attached wire. I believe what you see on YT is guys doing what I ha e described but don't show it. I could be wrong. Google "Is aluminum a good ground?".
@GreenTechTownАй бұрын
Ohhhh I was under the impression you were only concerned about the grounding conductor attached to my solar panel. I did install a grounding rod for this system, just not shown in this video. The following video I created in the past shows how I went about grounding the system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWXIqWuDpNasm80si=IfaUWUBAAqrjZPho&t=344

What are you using to draw the schematic?
@mehgoodenoughАй бұрын
Yeah, I've seen similar webapps for Network wiring diagrams. Could we get a link? 😃
@GreenTechTownАй бұрын
Believe it or not, it is just PowerPoint :D It gave me more flexibility with creating new connection points on imported/created images since my goal was to create a "pictorial" diagram instead of your typical schematic diagram. However, I'm sure there is probably a better option out there. Feel free to let me know if you find one or know of one.

There are a few other components being powered by the system as well. The security camera was just an additional component. :D

Would this work for running a pond ? Without draining out the power using a 12v pump ? I'm looking into starting a pond using Solar to run the pump.
@GreenTechTownАй бұрын
Maybe a smaller pump that does not use as much power. Once you know how much power the pump draws, you can then use some basic solar calculators online to see what size battery & solar panel would be needed to run the pump 24/7. If you do not plan on running the pond 24/7 that would reduce the size of the solar panel and battery you may need.

Hey Gary, a lot has changed since this video, and I believe the hookup may have been shown in a previous video...I would have to check. Yesterday I just released an updated easy to follow diagram that shows how all my components are connected available here: greentechtown.gumroad.com/l/mhzjme If you are just interested in mainly the pump setup, you can find that diagram here: greentechtown.gumroad.com/l/numtlc

does this system need an inverter?

No. Everything uses 12v DC power. If I was using AC powered items, then yes, some type of inverter would be needed to convert my 12v DC battery power to AC power.
