Heat the hot side with solar powered elements - and have a water drip feed to assist cooling on the cold side - should improve wattage. Off the shelf pneumatic cylinders would simplify construction too - good video well done for getting it done!

Nice engine. Make it do work. Melt a salt with the solar and immerse the hot end in the molten salt. Insulate the salt vessel to make the engine become the path of least resistance for the heat that is leaving the system. Pump water with the PTO. Use the pumped water as a coolant.

@@abdulmohsin2887 All I know about this project is what I can see in the video. It appears to be a gamma type Stirling engine using concentrated sunlight as a heat source. Much of the heat is being wasted, the temperature differential is not being optimized, and the torque is not being put toward any apparent use. Showing that a Stirling cycle can convert heat energy into mechanical energy was accomplished on a commercial scale in 1818, so why not at least try to improve a bit on that? The torque available from that engine might run a very small pump, so why not dump heat into the water that is being pumped? Why not pump a mol6tin salt or metal to bring heat to the engine?

Thanks for kind words. Challenges? Not just two! The Stirling Engines are low torque engines, if we want them to use in real applications we need to make many modifications and also need to utilise other form of energy and combine output of both (that was topic of our previous presentation 😉). For your questions, 1) For solar energy utilisation, this engines are best suitable for stationary applications. For non-stationary, we can utilise any form of heat energy like biogas is first priority for low cost and eco-friendly energy, we can also use heat of flue gas at exhausts. 2) as mentioned before this engine require development for increase in work output, we were working on combining two energies. This will help in increase in work output and we can add attachment like governor to control speed/torque.

Needs a flat plate welded to that bit that catches sun lol we too power hungry for these things to be useful. Would have to scale this up and make like a rotary engine or something with like 10 of them but would need extensive upgrades including heat source

Totally awesome stuff!!! I been wanting to do this ever since I seen Greenpowerscience do it. That flywheel looks way too heavy for that engine....throw it on the lathe and cut at least half of that mass. Taller skinnier flywheels are much more effective than short fat ones. Thanks for the inspiration, I think I'll start cutting a crankshaft for an alpha engine today...yahoo

In theory Stirling engine must be derived from the stirling thermal power cycle which had been in studies for long but had not been developed due to its limitations to be of practical value. Nice demonstration.

impressive engine, especially since it's unpressurized, to raise the power of this engine for it's size without having to add pressure you could increase the compression ratio by either increasing bore size relative to piston stroke length or lower the phase angle lower than 90 degrees

My suggestion for this project will be jst do a fully setup having solar tracker, something to give the initial torque and sensors to adjust the position of the engine automatically.also instead of waiting for the cylinder to heat up to the point u can jst give the starting temperature to the system .once the system is heated enough u can turnoff the starting input and let the engine work using solar energy by maintaining the same temperature.
